Oil Temperature Sensor

Hey guys. Where would be the best spot to mount the sensor for oil temperature?

Oil pan, outlet of oil cooler (front mount) or the oil pedestal at oil filter housing?

Thanks

Mine is gonna be at the pedestal. I would think you would want it as close to the block as possible. After all thats the temp you want to see!

But you also want to make sure the oil cooler is doing its job!

Mine is in the pedestal, after the cooler.
For a full racecar or someone who is **** and likes gauges, its wise to do a temp gauge for both the oilpan and for after the oilcooler.
In the pedestal tells you the max temp of the oil entering the engine. This confirms that the cooler is working and prevents you from running with oil that is too hot to protect the engine as it enters.

Mounting the sender in the oilpan will tell you the absolute peak temperature of the oil. While this is helpful for preventing oil coking and thermal breakdown, the odds of the oil getting beyond its max working temp, without there being other symptoms(like overheating the engine, blowing the radiator cap, ect) are slim.
Its more important that you confirm the oil cooler is doing its job and the engine is getting a good supply of cooled oil. This is less of an issue on piston engines since their oil only cools a small portion of the engine, while rotaries cool a full 1/3 of the engine with their lube.

Go to Re-Speed. They have a pedestal with spots to run gauges from.
