Oil pressure issue

I bought a 1st gen rx7 about 9 days ago. It was suppose to have 10k on a rebuilt 13b carbed streetported motor. The OMP was removed. Im not sure if the old gauge is broken but it reads no oil pressure. I hooked up a aftermarket oil pressure gauge and it reads like 10 psi when I am reving it. What would be causing such low oil pressure, when its idling its at like 4-5 psi. It doesnt seem to have as much power as it should at all and it breaks up sometime during acceleration. Can anyone help?

faulty oil pump. Lack of compression. Did you do a ghetto check on the compression??? i would.

Where did you install the pressure sender, what weight oil are you running, are you pre-mixing? Compression check is in order. It can be done with a piston compression tester, post numbers after you test.

Reading through your other posts, sounds like you've had a bit of trouble with the car. How badly was it abused by the previous owner?

If you haven't downloaded a copy of the FSM, the link is in my sig.

Compressio test would have nothing to do with oil pressure. If the OMP was removed be sure to be putting plenty of 2-cylce oil in the gas tank! Look for any obvious leaks, make sure you have enough oil. The oil pressure regulator is is just as likely or more than the oil pump to have gone bad...

I bought an oil pressure tester gauge and a compression tester gauge. I will post numbers tomorrow. I cant download off your sig. it says I need 10 posts.
Yea so far I blew a pilot bearing and needed to pull the trans and bore the eccentric shaft for a new pilot bearing. I broke a brake rotor in half and the pads went flying off I had no breaks and almost crashed. Then the motor issue...it really sucks I am trying to get a refund on the car I think I have had it like 7 days

compression readings

Ok I tested the compression today but not the oil. Its pooring rain so I couldnt do the oil.

I got 95 compression on the front housing and 92 on the rear housing. Is that good?

did you pull the the plug on the tester so you could get a reading on all 3 rotor faces??? If you did those numbers are decent. its not awesome if youre motor was supposed to have ben rebuilt but mine is at 95 and 100 on a orginal 100k 12a

Numbers are fair. Since you ony have 1 number per rotor, you recorded what is the best number of the 3 faces per housing. Since you have an idea how to do it, go back and try again, this time holdig the release button down and the throttle plates fully open. Watch the bounces and record those.

A good fresh engine will give numbers in the 110-120 range, under 85, it's rebuild time

new compression

Ok I did the comp. test again. I tryed to do it by holding the realease valve but I guess the gauge isnt good enough because it would bounce fast and I couldnt read it. This time I did what the manual said though, I warmed up the motor then let it sit for 10 minutes. I got a little over 120 on both housings. I am going to put fresh oil and tune the carb and see if it runs better.
