Question Oil pressure hiccup?

Okay, question for the tech's here...
When starting up the 12a I have had the oil pressure needle stay low longer than expected upon initial startup (and sometimes after running the car for a while then shutting it off) [s.a. going in the store or to work] and then back out reasonably soon and the same thing happening. I let it warm up a fair amount before driving it, so it's not that I'm thrashing on the engine when she's cold, but it's bugging me.
I don't want to be freaking out if the gauge's tend to stick, but on the other hand, if it's really not got the oil pressure I don't want to hurt it... any ideas?

Stock gauges are getting more and more tempermental with time. You really cant trust them unless youve replaced the sending unit, cleaned the connector/wire and checked calibration of the gauge.
None of which are difficult or expensive to do.The sender is availible at most any parts place and takes minutes to change.Clean the connector with carb cleaner and inspect the wire for damage. The gauge calibration can be check with 5 cent resistors from a Radio Shack.Just buy the right resistors and hook them to the wire and ground, then see where the needle moves to.The values and needle positions are listed in the FSM.If you have an 84-85 I can provide you with the specs.

The alternative is to install a mechanical gauge(either screw-in tester gauge at the block or mechanical aftermarket dash mount gauge) and check oil pressure against what your stocker gauge says.....

Thanks for the info.
Yes, I do have an 84, would you provide the specs?
Thanks.

thx for the info. im gonna start saving up for a oil pressure gauge and a water temp gauge.

do i need a tac and a air fuel ratio gauge in the future. its a GSL i dunno if a air fuel raitio would work.

p.s. ive been having the same problem, bout to change oil. shows 16 on my gauge at idle lol

if you think that something is wrong with the oil Delivery ..to the internals ..be safe and premix..so you will not hurt the engine til you can straighten out the pressure problem..Search premix..good luck..(i'd do it for ya but i've had a long day..lol)

Working left to right......

1st mark (0psi) = infinity
2nd mark = 196.7 ohms
3rd mark (60psi) = 141.2 ohms
4th mark= no spec
5th mark (110psi) = 102.6 ohms

If you wanna calibrate/check any of the other ancillary gauges, let me know.

I found that you can actually adjust the oil pressure gauge...see this thread:

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...t=oil+pressure

As long as the gauge has not been ruined (if it reads something, it's probably not ruined) you should be able to make it read accurately. See what your true oil pressure is using a mechanical gauge, then make your's read the same pressure.
