Oil Everywhere!

Ok. There is oil down the left side of the engine (if you were sitting in the car) It doesnt look like its coming from the oil cooler. Looks like its coming from the block it self, but I dont know. All I know is its a mess. Does anyone know where it might be coming from? Please help me.
Thanks,
Nick

Wash it down, make sure the oil is full and start it and run it and see. Maybe the oil pipe to the cooler is leaking. Need more info too. Year? model? engine?

1983 12A. completely stock under the hood. I washed it down but by the time I pull over to check and see where its coming from its all over again. My oil pressure it still right around 60 though at cruising.

how about washing it down then just revving it up when parked with the hood open?

could be coming from oil pressure sender, bad o-ring under oil cooler, or a roasted dowel pin o-ring which is most likely. does it pool up just behind the distributor, above the MAZDA logo on rotor housing? that's typical dowel pin leak.

I put my money on the 'roasted dowel pin o-ring "
Been there done that, bet you even have oil residue behind the rear license plate.

Looks like a rebuild motor is in your future.

Hope you didn't pay too much for the car.

I got it basically for free. Wheres the dowel pin o-ring? Thats definitely it. The symptoms are all exactly as I have. It pools and oil residue.

The dowel pin is part of what holds the engine together. Its hollow, designed to act as an oil passage. Unforutately when the o-rings go and it leaks, the only fix is a rebuild.

You really only have 1 shot at getting this right.

First you need to clean the engine really well with some brake cleaner. Then I would use some spray on foot powder (athlete foot kind) on the area that you think is leaking. Run the engine, and the white powder will show you exactly where the leak is.

Now re-clean the area, I would use a 2-part epoxy that comes in a syringe so you can inject the mixture down into the crack. Let it set for 24-48 hours, rememeber you really need to be patient.

Since I can not be there in person, you will be taking for responsiblity for the produre.
