Oil Dye

[/B] Has anyone used oil dye to find a leak in a rotary? I've used them in a piston engine before but there is no comparision between the two. Just wanted to get your opinion(s).

Not to sound mean, but you know they burn oil with the metering pump. When I first bought my first RX-7, I didn't think it would burn "that much" oil as it did and I was sure it was leaking somewhere? But it would keep dropping and no noticable leak anywhere which ofcourse baffled me. I would burn about a 1qt in about 1000miles or so with the all orginal I was running at that time. Just FYI

Im not an expert or anything. But in my opinion since if your still using the stock OMP pump I wouldnt want to put any type of dye into my engine. I dont know if it will hurt any of the seals or anything but I wouldnt want to risk it! I would get some lucus oil and add that in with new oil, and you may want to go with a thicker oil. Just my 2 cents. Thats what I would try.

I have used it. I works great!

And suprisingly the car is still running after I used it?

It helped me find my rear main seal leak in my '84.

The reason for the dye was to find my oil LEAK, I wasn't sure if it was my pan, rear seal, oil sender , beehive or oil line. I put it in and found out that my only leak is the oil line.

Thanks for all of your input.
