Was looking at the engine today and said got to ger rid of the AC it don't work anyways so I was looking at what to disconnect and got down to the condenser core that sits it front of the radiator and was wondering if it was possible to use that for an oil cooler?

??? Why not? If it's sitting in a good place, has air going into it, I don't see why not? The only reason I see would be, It has only one row but maybe as a cheap way to get one for now until a guy could find a 1983 under cooler ??

Can't do it, Look at the core runners they are to thin and you'll have to much oil pressure drop. Plus the fittings are not large enough.

hey, what about the oil coolers that go under the oil filter (with coolant lines running to it)? are they any good? 'cause the new engine I just got has one, and the two lines that normally go to the front mounted oil cooler are taken up by this one. I have a front-mounted one, but it's bent pretty bad in the middle, and probably doesn't flow very well.

NO one anywhere would do that. The water oil cooler is far inferior to the front mount oil to air cooler. That would be the dumbest conversion anywhere.

Not ment to be insulting, but every 83-85 12a owner learns to hate that cooler!!! I should know, I converted to the front mount cooler and never looked back!

I meant the new motor already has it on it, and my old front mount one is toast, along with the old motor, so I'm just going to leave the water oil cooler on for now, seeing as how it doesn't kill oil pressure like the bent up old front mount one. I'll get a newer front mount one and replace the water oil cooler eventually, but at the moment I don't have any $$, so it'll have to wait. By the way, the new engine is in, it runs, and doesn't smoke.

My front mount oil cooler is bent, and was held on by like 8 cable ties 'cause the rad mounting rusted right off. I wouldn't have converted it at all if it wasn't already on the engine, I just dropped in the new engine as is.

don't waste your time or engine with any other cooler
then a front mount cooler, when you get around to it
get a 2ed gen oil cooler. and loose the water (heater)
cooler

There are a lot of aftermarket front mount oil coolers. No one seems to use them. If its hard to find an SE or 2nd gen, why not? Seems reasonable and cheap.

Nobody uses them because they're not big enough. The oil is a third or so of the rotary's cooling system!
