oil capacity question with new air/oil cooler
oil capacity question with new air/oil cooler
Hey guys!
This weekend I get my car back on the road with a new radiator and AIR/OIL COOLER! WooHoo! Anyway... it would seem to reason that with this new cooler my oil capacity will suddenly increase. yes? So what IS my oil capacity gonna be after the swap?
'nother question.... I'm wondering about my oil pressure when I first crank it up. I'm sure the pressure will be zero for quite a while untill that thing fills up. Whada ya think and how can I minimize the zero pressure thang? Should I even be concerned about it? TIA

If you installed an air/oil cooler as a custom job your capacity will vary depending on the length of the hoses you're running to/from the cooler.
It should always have oil in it once installed, so there's no waiting for it to 'fill up' per se. Zero oil pressure, or the absence of oil, means there's too much air in a system designed for oil not air. Remember, oil is not only used to lubricate but to cool.

Something else comes to mind...... when changing the oil with these air/oil coolers.... wouldn't a quantity of dirty oil not drain out? It can't all drain back into the oil pan right? Just a thought....
I was thinking that too. Im changing my oil cooler lines tommorow and I plan to rinse out my cooler. To totally flush the system, you would have to change the oil about 3 times.

I'm pretty **** retentive when I do oil changes. I punch holes in the oil filter so its contents (and what's in the oil passages) can drain out into the oil pan, before I even open the drain plug.
Then, after I open the drain plug, while I'm under there I rotate the driveshaft (car in gear, and yes this is on a lift
) to try and get the oil out of the rotor cavities. Get a noticeable amount of oil, too. I even rotate the engine BACKWARDS to try and pump some oil out of the oil cooler lines, but this doesn't really work.
This INCLUDES the fact that oil changes happen about once a month
