is this normal idle?

(1985 series 3 rx7)

i start it up..

by doing that technique i mentioned earlier

(1. turn key to on but not start to get the fuel pump going
2. pull choke out
3. pedal to the floor 2 times
4. start )

pull the choke out and its around 1000 - 1000+

after 4-5 mins i put it down to about 800-900rpm

then after a while the choke goes down automatically and its likes really low..

just above 0

it sounds normal though..

is this normal?

thanx guys..

no, thats too low. Its probably like my car where even though the choke pulls off its still not warmed up enough to idle normally. Whats it idle at after is been driven for a while?

800!!!?

damn

well i havnt driven it long yet..

ive only been starting it everyday.. so that its healthy..

but on tuesday i will get my insurance and ill take the car for a long spin and observe wat the RPM idle is..

but the idle now.. (without driving) is just above 0 when the choke goes in automatically..

hmm damn so this is not normal huh? what could be its problem?

do you mean the rpm should be at 800 after driving it for a long time?

or 800 right away after the choke goes in automatically and the car is stable in the garage..

With the choke in....no gas applied....car just sitting there, your tach should read around 800 rpms. (That's with the car warmed up and ready to go. If you try to start the car cold without the choke pulled out it'll just barf and then die)

Mine does...maybe a little bit lower or higher...it's all normal.

When I start the car cold, choke out...around this time of year it'll sit at 1500 rpms and then as it slowly gets warmer the engine speed will increase eventually to 3000...and then the choke goes in and it sits nicely at 800 rpms and my car is nice and toasty.

the reason yours is idleing low is cause its not fully warmed up. It takes a good 10-15 mins to get it fully warm. carbs are garbage old technology and theres not really anything you can do about it unfortunatly.
