No safety stop on seat belts

i assume my seat belts are broken. Do the fb seat belts not you in case of an accident. I mean there seems to be no safety lock in seat belt mechanism. I can pull as fast as I can and nothing happens, just pulls more belt out. Is that normal in an 85?

Try pulling the seat belt out when you are driving the car and braking. They should lock from inertia.

The seat belt retractor is easy to take out, it's under the bins, it it held in by one big bolt. You could check it for corrosion, I didn't see if you are in the rust belt like I am, but the retractor is in a vulnerable location.
But I would say yes there is something wrong, and there are so few safety systems on these old cars, I would want to make sure the one we have is functional.

I thought the same when I first got my TII. Try a healthy stab of the brakes while moving, I bet you'd be surprised, it probably works, just not as touchy as a modern safety belt.
