No safety stop on seat belts
i assume my seat belts are broken. Do the fb seat belts not you in case of an accident. I mean there seems to be no safety lock in seat belt mechanism. I can pull as fast as I can and nothing happens, just pulls more belt out. Is that normal in an 85? |
Try pulling the seat belt out when you are driving the car and braking. They should lock from inertia.

Nope. Nothing. It just pulls all the way out. |
The seat belt retractor is easy to take out, it's under the bins, it it held in by one big bolt. You could check it for corrosion, I didn't see if you are in the rust belt like I am, but the retractor is in a vulnerable location.
But I would say yes there is something wrong, and there are so few safety systems on these old cars, I would want to make sure the one we have is functional. |
I thought the same when I first got my TII. Try a healthy stab of the brakes while moving, I bet you'd be surprised, it probably works, just not as touchy as a modern safety belt.

I'll give it a go. Thanks guys |
Must be sticking, mine grab when I just lean forward fast.
