Need neutral safety switch to safety--85 gsl

Hi everyone...so having taken my new car to get saftied, the mechanic said that the neutral safety switch had to work first (cars a manual FB). After telling me to buy a new $100 switch, I decided to check it on my own and found that its operating fine...when tranny is in neutral there's continuity but none when in gear. Unfortunately the car can still start in first...so I am now confused... especially since the two wires simply dissapear from the tranny into the wiring loom. Where do they go? And how should I attempt to fix this? They didn't attach to the starter motor like I thought. Also I have searched this issue for a couple hours and scoured my Haynes manual to no avail.

Not 100% but Isn't the switch under the dash on the clutch pedal mount area?

Not on the Fb's I dont think, only on the later generations from what I found online. That being said there is a little button thing that is depressed when you release the clutch and was hooked up to a couple other wires

There is no neutral safety switch on an FB.. nor a clutch start switch. The engine will start in gear without the clutch pedal depressed. The wiring and switch going to the clutch and brake pedals is for the cruise control cancellation when the clutch or brake pedal is depressed.

Thanks a lot that explains what the switch is there for! I will show this to my mechanic and hopefully, he'll take my word for it
