No power..?
Hey guys, I have a 82 RX7 with the 12A engine in it (recently swapped another 12A in the car with only 30,000 kms on it rebuilt by rx7 specialties in Calgary.)
So here's the story :
I was driving one day, and my exhaust seemed to be getting louder, weirdly (don't ask me how or why) and all of a sudden the car backfired as I was going down a hill. My exhaust then was louder than ever so I figured i tore apart my muffler. Later as I was driving it, the car seemed like it was losing more and more power every time I drove it. I looked under my hood and noticed that my intake manifold gasket was leaking so I replaced that thinking it might be the problem. I then looked at my exhaust and notice I pretty much blew up my muffler. I replaced the whole exhaust with 2.5 inch piping but has no muffler at the moment. Then, I realized my timing may have been a bit off, so I re timed it. It STILL has the same problem after everything I've done so far.
Problem with the car :
When I try starting the car it takes a couple attempts but when it fires up it idles a bit higher than normal, and when i hit the gas pedal it takes longer to reach higher RPM's. When I try driving it from a stop, it takes a long time to even get it up to 50 km/h. Also while moving, if i'm at about 4000-5000 rpms the car bogs out and wants to die. I wasn't quite sure how to explain it, but hopefully you guys get it.
Things I have done :
Intake manifold gasket
Full new exhaust
Timing
Spark plugs/wires/cap and rotor are good
Compression is good
I'm not sure what it is now, I'm going to be replacing the fuel filter also, but if that's not the issue, than i'm completely lost. ANY help would be highly appreciated since I haven't been able to drive my car for just about a month now Thanks in advance

High idle indicates a vacuum leak somewhere. You can't set the timing with a high idle, put it back to where it was. The explosion may have plugged one of the cats or blown out one of the rubber hoses, ACV, brake booster, idle compensator, etc.. If it backfired back though the carb with enough force, it may have damaged the butterfly linkage.

Have RX-7, will restore

my first thought is a clogged converter. start the engine and put your hand at the muffler's tips. the exhaust should be extremely strong coming out of the muffler. the exhaust could have cracked due to the pressure from a clogged converter. i would start there. keep us posted.

I would start by verifying that you have all four spark plugs sparking. This needs to be done with a visual inspection.
If that checks out, we can go from there.

Thank you guys for taking the time to reply. The very first things I did was check for spark, and I am getting spark to all 4 plugs. Also, my old exhaust had a few leaks in it because of the backfire, so I replaced it with full 2.5 inch piping and it's still running like crap. Also, I recently took the carb off to remake the intake manifold gasket, and I made sure that there were no lines that were disconnected. I know I have no vaccum leaks. I should probably add that when it's idling high, and I go inside the car and pull the gas pedal out, the car either lowers in idle or it dies.
