no power?

no power?

i have an 82 base model and i was goin down the highway last night and my dash lights got really bright and my volt meter spiked so did my oil pressure and my brake lights went out and if i had my turn signal on and gave it gas all my dash lights flashed really fast.I got in to olathe and stopped to get something to eat and when i went back out and tried to start my car and i had no power so i tried to jump start it but i still get no power????

Start with the middle fusible link, then check the wiring for the alt and battery. Sounds like you had a hot spike from grounding a power wire or the alt nuked itself.

It won't start even if you charge or change the battery? If it does start, but gives out fast you might have also fried your alternator in the process.

When mine went out I had the crazy electric problems for a few minutes before dying.

thanx guys im goin to get my alt right now. I changed the fuse still did nonthing. i looked at all of my alt and battery wires they all look good. so im goin to try the alt today

Did you change a fuse, or a fusible link? The fusible links are located on the driver's side strut housing, and look like a cloth covered wire which is plugged in at both ends...

If it was your alternator, then jump starting should have provided power.

it's running i looked at the fuse it didn't look bad so i put my new alt in and still nothing so i tried to take the fuse out and it pulled apart so i put in a new fuse and it started right up. thanx for the help

another fuseable link problem, lol.
at least this time you didnt have to drive all the way to lawrence.

yea but im still having problems with my headlight motors. i'll put a new fuse in it and they'll work like 2or3 times of going up and then it blows the fuse again
