which shocks?

Terrified.
If you have stock shocks, and don't plan on using it for any real performance but moreso for street use and daily driving, I would say the KYB's. If you do plan on using it more performance wise, like a lot of autocrossing but still daily driving it, I would say go with Tokico Illuminas for the adjustability; however, I'm no suspension guy, and when it comes time to pick some out I'll be sure to ask someone who is a suspension guy what they thing would be best for what I will be using my car for.

illuminas are waay too expensive right now, but my oe shocks have 220k miles on em, and it feels like the suspension consists of rubber bands. i just want something thatll stand up to spirited street driving, but i wanna know if KYBs are something i should stay away from, never heard much about them

thats exactly what im looking at cello but theyve got KYBs for 129 shipped. they would allow more room in the budget for springs n bushings.
any idea where i could find a complete bushing kit, or do i have to buy it piecemeal?

one more question- where can i get some pedals/pedal covers that actually fit? cello, i know we have the same ones, but mine dont seem to want to stay on. ebay has a bunch of riced-out stuff, and some stuff that might work, but i dont want to buy something and have it not work.

From my research, to Tokico HPs were the best struts for low budgets, it's what I ended up getting.
I would have preferred KYB AGX adjustables, but they don't make the damn things for the fronts of our cars. They have some lower end stock replacements, and they aren't bad, but the Tokicos are considerably better for only a little more bread.
Also, OEM pedal pads:

I have Tokico blues on the 83 and the 85GSL and I'm getting a set for the 85SE. Those Blues are really nice: a little choppier than stock (KYB), it's hard to drink your tea without spilling, but nice and tight in turns, and no bump-steer.
It looks like the rear pair are easy to install, but the fronts require a spring compressor.

RB makes springs, but not shocks (well, struts actually.)
The best struts all depend on what you are using the car for, and your budget. What you would put on a dedicated track car isn't necessarily what you'd put on your daily driver.

In the process of putting Tokico Blue shocks and Eibach springs on my '84 GSL.
Also went with replacing all suspension bushings with black poly bushings.
Billy at ReSpeed set me up with a nice package. Just finished the rear end and expect to start on the front end as time allows. Everythings' gone pretty well so far. Bought some replacement nuts and bolts from Blackdragon.
