no joystick
no joystick
I removed radio. connected a 6 pin cable to the 2nd outlet on back of the radio. disconnected the joystick and connected cable to these joystick cables. I only hear the rear speakers. Using different combinations, the front speakers are only working now. I need help. I can't stand this joystick. I had this question for you guys about a month ago. I finally tried the different ideas given to me in the past. Can someone help me do this step by step. thanks
Depending on EXACTLY when you car was made, Mazda used two different wiring setups.
Between my wife and me, we own 3 85 RX-7, and my current one (NOV '85) has a slighty different wiring setup than the other two (OCT and and AUG '85).
The simple way to avoid having to much around too much is to find a base or GS RX-7 with no joystick in a junkyard. Cars without the joystick have jumper cable instead. Just grab the cable and plug it into your car

I tried the jumper cables. These cables are located where the window switches/coin holder sit, correct. Underneith the that CENTER piece, right. All this does is disconnects the front speakers and allows the rear speakers to stay on. I DON'T WANT TO REWIRE THE CAR. I WOULD LIKE TO KEEP IT STOCK. PLEASE I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Relax.
I can help.
The jumper wire in the wife's base model was right under where the joystick would sit. Basically it's just a wire thet replaces the joystick.
The back of your stock stereo should have 2 of the 6 pin plugs, right?
Was it using one or both?

Sorry to threadjack. That center console wire, what does it do? I seem to have one wire in there that does ABSOLUTELY nothing on my 83 GSL. I have the windows, defogger, and cruise control all connected (and hope they're connected RIGHT! Which one connects to the black tab?)

The radio only has one 6 pin connection. If you look at the rear of the radio, the one on the left hand side is being used. The one on the far right is not being used and has a safty plug.

Once you remove the joystick, you have to run a complete second set of factory wires
(without the joystick too) to the 2nd amp.
From the Radio's 2nd output to the 2nd amp.
In a stock GSL or SE, the jostick takes ONE input and breaks it into TWO.

Mazda used a couple different wiring setups depending on when the car was made.
My current SE actually has a splitter box under the driver's side bin that takes the single signal from the joystick and splits it for the two amps.
My wife's base model used the two six-pin plugs ran one directly back to the front amp (or whatever that little box was) and the other converted to an 8-pin, and then went to where the joystick would be, through a short jumper cable and back to the amp
My previous SE used one 6-pin cable from the stereo, converted to 8 pin back to the joystick, but split the single 8 pin out fom the joystick into two 6 pins before running back to the amps.
AND all thee cars are stock '85's

You are correct,
HOWEVER,
If you do it the way I posted, you will have true 4 channel setup, and you will
be able to fade from FRONT to REAR, and LEFT to RIGHT from the stock radio,
when eliminating the joystick.

True, Directfreak...
I bow before your rotary stock stereo mastery

This reminds me of an argument me and a friend had over bondo in high school. . . . we were both correct, in our own right. Didn't stop the fists from flying
Directfreak, is your logo thingy spinning rather faster than normal?
