Nitrous Oxide Injection...

So I was wondering, what is the mass consensus reguarding nitrous injection on a rotary engine...Is it good or bad?

A "dry" system is for fuel injected systems only. I suppose if you just used a 25 shot of juice and your carb was already jetted rich, you'd be OK with a dry system but I sure wouldn't bother with NOS if I was only going to use just the 25 HP jet. The dry system only has a solenoid for nitrous injection. The box controlling a dry system piggybacks on the car's ECU so it can tell it to increase the duty cycle of the gas injectors already on the engine to supply the extra fuel necessary when the sytem is working. A "wet" system is much simpler. It has two solenoids. One to inject nitrous and one to inject extra fuel. They both come on at the same time and that is determined by you with a push of a button or, better, a micro-switch cobbled onto the carburetor to click "on" only at WOT. If you're carbureted and want more than just 25 horseys from your $450 NOS system, you have to use a wet system.

Dry systems worry me even for the proper application.... always go for a wet, preferably a plate system. Don't think they make a plate system for RX-7s, though, they only make them for normal Holley pattern carbs.

What are the details on your nos kit, what hp rating? or part number if possible? I have a se and I'm thinking about nos. what are the do's and don'ts for example? How many times can it be used while driving, side effects on the engine (eg overheating?).

Thanks in advance

Quick overview:
I have a NOS Sniper system for a V8. I use the 100 n2o fitting and the 125 fuel fitting. Retard timing 2 degrees for every 50 shot. That's 4 degrees on the 100 shot. Never use it unless you are floored. Use it only when "necessary". I have had zero problems with the system.

I've been looking at the dry system, 50 shot. Looks easy to install, and is about $499. There was a rx7 with a similiar kit installed on a 2nd gen.

You should be polling people that actually have run N2O, not people who have not had experiences with it personally. No offense, but the thing "my friend has it", is not personal experience. There are a lot of rumors that float around that get said as though they were fact.

I was thinking of just going 75 to be safe until I saw David88vert's setup. Is the GSL-SE basically stock or was it rebuilt with nitrous in mind? If it's stock, I'm going 100, baby!! Gimme my refund, Dubya!!

It was rebuilt first with large street ports. I would suggest on a stock port, non-rebuilt motor to start with a 50 shot wet first.

no exp with nitrous on rotaries, but i've ran a Nitrous Express kit on my mustang - wet kit with misc parts from venom and Holley/NOS as well. it's fun but not as cheap as you first think to do it right and safe.

wet kits are the way to go.

use a WOT switch, fuel pressure limit switch - also, use an rpm window switch if u've got the $$$.

bottle warmer highly recommended, and a line purge system.

all told you'll be looking at $1100-1200 for a proper system. might as well just put it into a 13b TII swap.

Do it eBay (except for the fuel and nitrous solenoids...absolutely get those new...) style and you'll be a playah at a quarter of that guesstimate...ya just gotta be patient. It's how I'm doing it. Too bad my '80 got wiped out.

'good' or 'bad' in what sense? Good in the speed performance sense, short term, bad in the engine wear life sense, long term

hey, ebay, that's a good idea mar3. what's up with your 80 rx7? is an insurance company trying to rip u off? when I got t-boned in my 83 (by a jacked up jeep cj5 with steel I-beam bumper) they were going to give me $500! xlnt shape, custom wheels, blah blah... they ended up giving me $0 because they pulled some school zone BS and said I was partially at fault. ah well. I REALLY wish i had gotten a lawyer and not said $&^% to the insurance company myself.

btw, rx7s hold up pretty well in a side collision.

I had a dry NOS setup on my 91 n/a with only a fifty shot, couldn't get it to work and ended up breaking an apex seal. After the engine rebuild and porting and putting a holley 600 with a wet NOS kit and pushing a 100 shot it was working but was intermitting sometimes. I think that was due to the higher compression rotors in the 89-91 n/a's. But man, with a street port and a 100 shot the car was flying when it was working!
