Nikki issue
Thanks in advance for any help
83 GSL, car ran ok but developed an intermittent starving for fuel issue at cruising rpm's. So I did a complete emissions and rats nest delete (not because I thought that was the issue). Cleaned and rebuilt the carb. Changed to mechanical secondaries. Fuel pump is fine and filters are new.
Now it cranks and won't idle smoothly below 2000 rpm's. Idle mixture screw is currently set at 2 turns out but different settings have been experimented with without much change. Air vent solenoid is plugged in.
It seems rich to me but I'm not sure. When it idles down below 2000 it seems to me it's loading up.🤷🏼♂️

For simplicity only.
Altitude compensator, anti-after burn valve, dash pot, shutter valve, choke diaphragm, vacuum secondary and the omp have all been removed

I would first start looking for vacuum leaks. Removing the rats nest for simplicity isn't really a thing because the factory service manual shows how to troubleshot one that is complete.
Get the FSM here: Foxed.ca
I may be coming across as snarky, but that is not my intension. We will help you get it going.

I disagree. If you are removing and installing the carb it is definitely a thing. I have the fsm in print as well as a Haynes. I've looked at the old threads on here by RX-7 Carl and poured over the threads related. Everything would have been left in tact if it hadn't started running bad to start with. I had no motive for removal other than simplicity of maintenance. I've eliminated vacuum leaks as a possibility (I think).
Snarky? When you're asking about an issue that has been addressed as many times as this one it's to be expected. We're good 😁

The starving for fuel could be the fuel pump. clogged fuel filter and/or crud in the tank. First is to replace the fuel filter. Then do the volume test that is in the FSM.
The running at 2000 RPM has to do with the something that was missed in the rats nest conversion. I can't help with that part. Too many variables without being hands on. See if has to do with the choke cable or linkage if you have eliminated vacuum.
