Well the four models for 84 are S,GS,GSL,and GSL-SE. S has a four speed. GSL has rear disk brakes. And GSL-SE is fuel injected.

So your is a GS..

I think i got the info right. Anyone disagree?

BTW your engine is 1.1 liter. 84-85 gsl-se's have larger 1.3 liter FI engines(stock anyway)

no, i guess S is not as good. I have a GS and its great. You dont have to have the bigger 1.3 to have fun or get power.

BTW the 1.1 liter is called the 12A and the 1.3 liter is called the 13B

Mazda dropped the 4 speed in 81. All manual transmissions from 81 on were 5-speed. It could be an S or a GS. If it's got power mirrors it's a GS, manual mirrors. S.

My S-model was manufactured in May of 1981, and has a 5 speed trans and power mirrors. It's titled as a 1981 Mazda 2S. It must have been on the end year-model for 1981, as new year vehicle model launches usually happen in late June / July.

It has no sunroof, no back hatch-glass wiper, nor power windows; however, it has a power gas cover release and hatch.

S = simple? j/k

S models did NOT come with power mirrors, it was the only one.

In my opinion, the S is the top of the line 12a model. No sunroof, no power windows, no unnecessary crap. Aside from the drum brakes and open differential, it's perfect. The non-power mirrors look much better. That's just my opinion though.

I assure you that my 1981 S-Model came with power windows; as well as a map light, and a remote hatch release. This data is for 1984 year model options, not necessarily for the 1981 factory assemblies. For example, Digital clocks, 140 mph speedo, and oil pressure gauges did not necessarily apply to previous year models, but are listed on the 1984 data sheets; thus, build options can obviously change.
But, if U.S. Army's vehicle is a 1984 model, then the 1984 data sheets obviously would apply.

I assume you mean power mirrors, not windows, as you stated earlier that you have manual windows. You don't have an S if it came with all of that stuff. Manual windows, mirrors, no cruise, no internal hatch release and the analog clock were always part of the S model from 81 on. I don't have a brochure from 81 but maybe someone else does.

Clearly, you have a GS as they've got all the things that you describe they have and don't have. I've never heard of a 2S, maybe it's a typo.

lol..yes, meant power mirrors, not power windows. (This has thrown me off abit as I always thought mine was an S-Model.) Wouldn't the GS have the GS badge on the rear? It doesn't appear that mine had a GS badge on the rear left, as I've seen on others have.
I also had the plain 13" steel wheels, originally; no mags. (I traded those for the LS-style cast aluminum wheels at a salvage yard many years ago.) I was always under the assumption that it was an S-Model.

It sounds to me like you've got a GS without the options (alloy wheels or sunroof) and someone took off the badge.

Maybe 2S stands for "2 seat" on the title?

No one has noticed, that the US Army has bought an RX-7. Could this be a change in military policy?
