A new DHLA 48 question

Ok, so I'm beginning my rebuild....asked questions, did searches, bought a book...
Now I begin the disassembly, and I can't get the chokes out ... the venturis came out easy enough...I don't want to force it or tap it with anything metal (chisel screwdriver)...as I look closer I see that the nipple that supplies the oil from the omp is what is causing the hold up (see pix/arrow).
How the F%@& do I get this thing out, clearance is too tight for a socket or wrench and a needle-nose can't enough grip from the side or torque from above....got to be something simple...I just can't figure it out.
Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks

attack it at a really steep angle from the top. almost like using it as a screw driver. you just need to get enough on it to loosen it up. rest the wrench on the jet thats right next to it sort of angle. its not the most efficient use of a wrench. but it looks like you should be able to fit it if the wrench is over that jet

Whoa! Did you undo the set screw that holds the chokes in first. I've had them out
an don't recall ever having to pull the nipples out to do it.

Thanks TG....yes I undid the set screws. I'm thinking they could be frozen in there (chokes). the only thing I can see that might be binding is that nipple...

It's just weird, the venturis came out (pretty) easily, and the chokes just won't budge. Like I said, I haven't begun "persuading" the chokes out...I wanted to hear from those that have been down the road already...

Thanks

Use a deep well 1/4" drive socket. If that will fit over it, use a little PB on the outside and squirt some down the hole too. I'm not following you on the chokes vs. venturi. If you're referring to the inserts that change the diameter of the bore, they should be held in by set screws. If those are stuck, you can coax them out with a brass drift. PB Blaster may help but it doesn't work as well on aluminum corrosion as it does rust. Might try some Kroil instead or gently heat up the carb body around the venturi/chokes. Then immediately ice down the chokes and tap out. If you're trying to take out the butterflys, don't.

My chokes came out without removing that as well. Try opening the butterflys and trying to push them out from that end.

Thanks guys,

Went out and bought a 1/4" 8mm deep-well six point socket...still didn't fit...took the grinder to the outside of the socket to remove some material and it fit. Once the nipple was removed the chokes came right out.

I hope I'm using the right names for things....the Venturi (actually I think it's called an Auxiliary Venturi) is the first one to come out and has a number stamped on it like 8010.1 (don't have it in front of me right now). And the Choke is the second one with a number stamped like 39.
The auxiliary venturi is larger and has the venturi right in the middle. The Choke has a slot cut into it for the Pump Jet and has nothing on it's inside diameter.

Thanks for the help

Yep, 39 is the choke size for a Dell setup for a stock port 12A.

I must have skinny 1/4" deep wells, never had to thin mine to fit. Glad you got it apart.
