sandbags and springs

Hey guys. So, we put two sandbags in the back of the RX7 and the difference that they made in traction on ice and snow is night and day. My concern is that if we leave them in for the winter (another 4 months - yuck) will they cause the springs to sag permanently? Like I said, the difference is remarkable and turns the thing from sketchy in the snow to pretty darn good.

Thanks!

I would say that yes, you are shortening the life of your springs, but no, not enough to worry about it. I know people with trucks that have used sand bags for years with out ruining their springs to the point of needing to replace them. I wouldnt worry about it, id rather use sandbags and ruin springs, than not use them and wreck your car.

Just be sure you keep the total load on any corner of the vehicle under the mfg's max-load rating, and you're fine.

Get yourself a set of Blizzaks and 1 or 2 bags of tube sand and you'll be set.

Load limit for the 1st gen is something like 640 lbs. total net weight. If you still have the OEM springs, they've already sagged out around 1 to 1-1/2". I would worry more about rust from winter driving than spring wear. As your springs sag, your cornering should improve with the center of gravity.
