Need muffler advice

Need some suggestions for a realativley cheap muffler for my 82 GS thats to be used for AutoX this year. I'd love to get an RB power pulse but keep in mind, the car cost me $150, and I'm trying to keep it as cheap as possible. I need something that will flow good but at least muffle some of the noise. My local region imposes a 95 dB limit at 50 ft away, measured at the fastest part of the track. I will be running an RB collected header and straight pipe back to it.

I was thinking this one http://store.summitracing.com/partde...765&part=15735

A friend who has a drag Mustang put these on and they quieted it pretty well.

I fit is still to loud I was going to add one of these http://store.summitracing.com/partde...2177&part=2381 before the muffler.

If anyone has some other suggestions I would LOVE to hear them. I'm trying to get the car done by the end of Febuary. I'm trying to keep it under $70, as this is just going to be a budget weekend racer.

Thanks alot,
Joe

i cant get your links to work for some reason. Anyway, i hear that presilecers work very well to muffle sound and are not restrictive I think that may go over your $70 limit but you may find a used on on ebay. I think the a presilencer is just like a glasspack except it has stainless steel packing instead of fiberglass. One person in this forum emptied a glaspack and repacked it with ss and welded it back up. I think the post is on ' i rode in a loud 12A' thread or something like that. I am going to try that so i will keep you posted on how it works.

if you're interested, i've got a RB presilencer that i never got around to installing, so it's brand new. $50 and you pay shipping. it cost $65 new. i have to ditch my pacesetter exhaust anyway and get a whole RB setup which already would have the presilencers.
drop an email to g_s13@hotmail.com if you've got any questions

CrazyJoe, the "mufflers" you posted would do next to nothing on a rotary... and after your first autoX, they'll effectively do nothing because you'll have burned out all the "roving fiberglass".

I'd check the wreckers for an OEM Mazda muffler if you cant afford a new RB. Any other cheap muffler will only last you a matter of hours before it burns out.

I have ran a baffeled muffler (your normal turbo muffler) and have had excellent results. The increase in back pressure id great fro low end and it flowed well enough on the top end to not restrict power. I used a 2.5" super turbo muffler. Cheap but effective.

oops sorry...didn't realize the first one was a glasspack. What about simply bolting up a cheap flowmaster??

thanks guys,
Joe

flowmaster's actually work great, get welded seams so you dont blow it aparts on the downshift backfires, another alternative is the dynomax,i ran one for a while,it held up really nice, but the dynomax has that funny snorkle sound to it at high rpm's?both significantly reduce sound at high rpm,the low rpm noise wont be aftected that much.

I'm running two 40 series Flowmasters and can finally hear someone talking in a low voice while the car is idling...

Exclamation

If you run a 'turbo' muffler just make sure it's not too restrictive!
