Need help, guys!
Any one recognizes this spring as anything that belongs in an FB? Specifically an `85 GSL-SE. I took off the following:
1) upper intake
2) alternator
3) injectors
4) air pump
5) water pump AND wp housing
6) Cltch fan and shroud
7) Crank shaft pulleys
8) oil metering pump***
The only things I have never removed before are the water pump housing and oil metering pump. In truth, I am not even sure this belongs to the car. I found it underneath while getting a bolt I dropped and freaked out a little. First thought was that it belongs to the OMP somewhere, but could not find anywhere it could, unless it goes inside the front cover. The rectangular OMP shaft down not seen to easily fit around the end of the spring. Ans the spring is not dirty or oily in any way. Looked at the FSM, almost all of it, but nothing. If I can rule out OMP, I will feel better. TIA

Unless you disassembled the OMP - this is not part of that unit. This presumes the OMP is similar unit to a 12A, which I am familiar with...
Feel for ya! Installing a 12A and I was MISSING the return throttle spring ;p
Found by sheer luck on ground near car. Mazda would have laughed at me if I'd walked up to the parts counter looking for a replacement...

I don't recognize that part specifically, but judging by the shape of the coils it appears to be a spring that might put tension on some type of linkage. Sort of like a bump stop or return spring.
I have an OMP assembly from a GSL-SE that I picked up in a basket of spare parts, While it's slightly different than a 12a unit, I don't think that spring is from it.

ancient wizard...
That spring does not belong in engine compartment of your SE. Perhaps it was on the floor previous to your working on car there?
Reminds me of some practical jokers I worked with who would toss a snap ring or speedo drive gear or extra hardware on my workbench after I had assembled a manual gearbox and was now installing in vehicle to screw with me.
They had gotten me before doing this, watching my expression when I saw the part on my bench, panicking the now installed transmission was missing the part.

The only -SE part that it reminds me of is one of the return springs for the clutch or brake hydraulics, but those don't come out easily as there's a piston and plunger in there, and the spring would be covered in hydraulic fluid.
As the others have stated, I don't think that just 'fell out' of your -SE,

All of you guy, I am sincerely thankful for your replies. They really helped me come to the same conclusion that it is not from my car. Plus, I remember my son doing some work on his 350z and M3 recently (he needs to use my tools od course). So, more than likely it flew off from something of one of his and landed under my car. Like the "bad joke" comment, LOL. Truly appreciate ya'll taking your time and racking your brains to reply.
