S4 omp question
Hey everyone I just received my s4 front plate and omp-it's for a fd conversion. My question is this. When I rotate the lever depending on where the coiled spring sits on the shaft it can open more or less. When the spring sits straight on the upper part of the shaft flush with the bracket it doesn't open that much. Like I said this is for a conversion and also I'm not going to be using the stock rod, but I'm making brackets and using a brake cable to the stock fd throttle body. Someone please help me, if someone could please take a picture of it when it's fully opened. Thank you very much!!!

If the spring was installed right on the OMP, then the lever should be spring loaded to full closed. When you lift up on the lever more oil is injected.
It sounds to me like your spring is not installed right on the OMP. It should NOT be flopping around. It should hold tension on the lever all the time.
Moving that lever up about 45-50* would be full open.

Actually, you don't have to move it that far. When the LEVER ARM is parallel with the centerline of the body, the OMP is at it's max output.
It's EASY to figure out. Remove the FRONT covers two screws and remove the cover. Pull out the piston with the spring, and set it to the side.
Hold something (I used a nail) against the part the piston was inserted into. Now watch that NAIL move as you move the arm from it resting place against the fixed pin. You'll find that the nail stops moving when the arm is parallel with the body of the OMP. You can still move the arm upwards more, but it will do NOTHING to move more oil from the OMP.
Just in case: The FRONT cover is the one most fwd when the OMP is installed on the front cover.

Thanks hailers, it's not that the spring is flopping around, nor did I remove it at all. It's just that if move the arm you can slide the spring down a little and then the arm opens all the way till it hits the side, but since you say parallel is max then that's fine, thanx.
