Name that beeping sound!!!

Well, today was interesting.... I was at my weekly autocross, and in the middle of my last two runs, I heard a beeping that I hadn't heard before... Both times it did it for only a couple seconds... Not the over-rev buzzer, and it's not the door buzzer... higher pitch than the door buzzer, and the speed of it was 90-120 bpm... What other warning buzzers/beepers are there?

Dan

there is a buzz from the "add coolant" light. perhaps when you swayed the car, the cooland was a hair low and set the light and buzer off.

Low oil level. You'll need about 3 quarts. Don't ask how I know.

why are you sure that is the cause of the beeoing? and if the oil were that low, i think Lt. Dan would know. if you add 3 quarts, you will be hating life.

perhaps, but why 3 quarts? i would guess the oil level would bea tad low and the car leaning wouuld take the oil away from the sender and would set off this alarm.

I'm sure because it's the only super fast beeping alarm I've ever heard come from my car. I don't know why, but for whatever reason, the alarm doesn't go off until you're approximately 3 quarts low. The oil light on the dash should be comin on along with it. The first time I heard it, it was so fast that by the time I looked for a light, I saw it going out, but couldn't tell which one it had been. It has a tendency to only happen around corners as well.

BTW, when this happened to me, I freaked out when it took 3 quarts. But I posted on here and told everyone about it, and somebody said that even though it is a 5 quart system, only roughly 2 quarts are actually in use at a time, the other 3 just sit in the pan. (I know it's all circulating, but it's the same equivalent.) So, bottom line, being 3 quarts low won't hurt the engine. I've gone proabably at least 10K miles since I did this to mine, and I've had no trouble.

This has happened to me too. Its the only one that I have heard beep this fast. Mine came on when I was a quart low (going really fast around corners), not three.

I suppose the faster the cornering, the less oil would need to be missing to sound the alarm. Considering my tires, I don't think I could corner fast enough to make it sound at only 1 quart low.

Could be the ocscillator, when it first starts making noise it is only periodic and sounds like "beeping". After awhile it gets worse until it becomes a constant screeching sound. Easy fix, just unplug the oscillator up by the left front headlight then plug it back in.
