Went to tag my 84 FB today. Paid w whole $3400 for the car. They pull up the NADA and it says average retail is 17,500 and high retail is 30,000? This seem to be a typo on the site, no? I wasn't about to pay taxes on 17.5! Sure enough when I pull it up I get the same? What gives?
Its like they are using FD prices maybe? How do I know what model I have it doesn't say GSL GS etc
ut

Its only the "GS" and I bet its an error in the NADA site. The GSL is valued at 5400, which is what I have. Stinks I they couldn't figure that out at the tag office! lol
Do you have a bill of sale from the seller that shows what you paid ($3400)? I don't know about Kansas, but in the states I have registered used cars in before (MD, NJ, NY), a written bill of sale, even if it's a hand written thing scribbled by the prior owner always overrules whatever book value (NADA, etc) the state uses for valuation when a bill of sale isn't available.
That is for the tag registration/renewal cost. Not sales tax. Its a TX car so Texas wants the sales tax on the vehicle. The "GS" model is just wrong on the NADA site IMO.
If you look at the GSL model its only valued at 5k. The GS is 17.5k. They just looked up teh wrong model at the TAG office.
I don't have the bill of sale but I have asked him to draw one up for me to save a few bucks. KS titles have the sold price on the title itself so you don't generally need it here.

Texas having no state income tax, raises the tax on everything that gets sold (consumption tax). In many ways a consumption tax means you pay more in taxes at the end of the day.
