[QUOTE=Gregs]....im hoping it will open the hood itself when i put a brand new one on it.[QUOTE]

it wont. it's not positioned right for it to push the hood up. it's all about that leverage and fulcrum(sp) and pivot point thing. i'm sure there's ppl here that know what i'm talking about.

Oh, I misread. I was under the assumption that it opened the hood hydraulicly, like the hatch should open (how many of our hatches really open like they're supposed to?)

Still a fairly good idea -_-

Good idea. Even better if it was on the side WITHOUT the battery. + + - = welding. Heh

Why does anyone still have their battery there anyway? Good idea Greg. Maybe leave the front mount as is or move it to the top bolt for more leverage and relocate the other end so its more in a vertical plane and use 2 struts. That would help it to self lift. Im gonna try this too.

Okay, so why is there a prop rod there still. a patent is expensive. oh it's cheap to submit, but for a full patent, not pending is like 5K a year to keep. and BTW you know that little plastic piece that holds the prop rod down, the clip..... i have those and will sell if you's guys need one,or two.

Greg,

Gotta give you props (no pun intended)(maybe a little)

But, I hope you dont mind some added ideas on you design. On the strut mounted end, I'm a little worried that a decent wind might put enough force on the hood to overpower the screw. Here is just a thought, take a hacksaw or other great metal cuting tool(dremel). Cut off one of the legs of that braket so you can run a bolt with some washers on there. That'll give it more surface area to withstand added force.

Unless the seals are just.....missing the full strength of the strut is at when it's topped out. just like on the rear hatch thats what holds it up. maxima's have a strut deal like that with a plastic 'clip' to hold the hood open. it's a much smaller strut though. so really what good does the strut do, you know ?

It's a great idea. However, you can NOT patent something built entirely out of off the self parts (Lamps Plus vs Tiffany Lamp company).

I feel like Scotty when he was stuck in a transporter loop for 80 years and just rematerialized.

I can see digging up old threads if there is a point in doing so that asks a question or relates to our cars, this one missed on all counts.

I don't want the struts to push the hood up. Can you imagine it somehow opening up on you when you're driving spiritedly ? Just holding it up is fine with me.

Yep. On top of that, it was a ghetto-rig in the 1st place.
