my latest mod, hydraulic hood prop (no more prop rod)

3 Attachment(s)
my latest "mod" here a hydraulic hood prop, using an old hatch strut
this mod was a total cost of nothing and required absolutley no drilling
that hatch strut is near dead and still holds the hood fine, im hoping it will open the hood itself when i put a brand new one it
nad for the record, it doesnt hit anything under the hood
this wold be a great mod for ppl with 79's where the hood prop is on the passenger side, which i have heard is quite an annoyance

anyway on to the pics, enjoy.,

Not really FREE.... My hatch's struts don't even work, so they're forty bucks a pop up here....

But still frikkin' awesome! I'm wondering if we could source a smaller, cheaper-to-buy-new one that could work, perhaps mounted to the rad or something... if you cut a hole in the cover plate between the rad and the hood for it to fold down into, it would look great, stow away in it's own little hole, and it would hold the hood up :)

Just tossin' out ideas. For people with extra hatch struts this is great though!

i like the way it looks where i mounted it, i guess its not free if u dont have a spare hatch strut :)

kettlman 08-26-04 10:38 PM

thats cool. you should have patented it befor posting! ha ha ha. when you were doing it, did you check to see what it looked like on the other side? it's pretty bare over there.

Gregs 08-26-04 10:41 PM

i already patented it, im going to begine to mass produce these, or sell the idea to a company such as CP racing or some other company that does alot of shit for first gens

BTW the patent is for sale for 500USD, this is no joke either

hornbm 08-26-04 10:55 PM

jays83gsl 08-26-04 11:01 PM

Are you seriously serious Greg? That's freakin awesome if you are!

Could we have the patent number?

I just want to see a regular fellow from this forum make it big :D

Gregs 08-26-04 11:07 PM

the application for the patent has been submitted, i should get the patent number in a few days

RotaryRyan 08-26-04 11:13 PM

this a really good idea youve got.:bigthumb:

Gregs 08-26-04 11:17 PM

see, you all can make your own, i dont care, but if u try and sell the idea, you will be getting sued ;)

bouis 08-26-04 11:39 PM

You just wasted eighty dollars.

Gregs 08-26-04 11:42 PM

i havent payed for shit yet, so i didnt waste anything

bouis 08-26-04 11:46 PM

Heh. No money, no application.

Edit: ouch. I guess times have changed. The lowest fee is now $375.

Gregs 08-26-04 11:52 PM

well this online thing i did, you pay them after the application is approved.....

Gregs 08-26-04 11:53 PM

damnit, im just joking, i didnt patent this, just thought i would share a nice idea i had with fellow first gen owners

jays83gsl 08-27-04 12:52 AM

That's a pity, lol.

Great idea, though. Be sure that I'll use it. ;)

You really should've patented it. That's what I thought until I saw the patent fee!
