Question Motot Mounts - poly or solid?

I see lots of polyurethane or solid motor mounts available for other cars. I was wonding if any are available or if anyone has used them on a rotary?

The engine being as smooth as it is should produce less vibration than a boinger. What would be the harmful effects if one used these stiffer mounts?

I'm sure you'd notice some increase in vibration.
But on the upside, these things tend to help out engine response.

Seems like the stock rubber mounts are overly soft and fail commonly.

I heard solid mounts add vibration, but i dont know how much, i guess its not much...but if your motor mounts are rotten like mine you will notice a HUGE diff.

I'd also like to see some poly engine mounts... Solid would transmit too much vibration and rattle things apart, I'd think.

hard mounts crack the front cover... do a search.. I think thats what it said in an old thread... peejay suggested putting a cable from the left strut housing then bolted to a bolt where the tranny meets the motor...... less vibration and when you give it gas..... it hold to the chassis.....

That is beginning to make sense to me now. I was wondering why I could not find any suppliers for poly mounts.

I think what you'er referring to is called a "torque link" or "torque limiter"? Sounds simple enough to fabricate, though I see them in catalogs.

Have never seen any -- stock ones normally work fine. For racing we either just solid mount the engine (aluminum bar stock with a hole) or put a
few
plugs of 1/2" delrin rod through the stock mounts.

well, i know i have an address of somewhere that supplies/makes solid transmission mounts (not sure if the Gen I cars were included though ... all it said was Rx-7)

i'll see if i can find the address and post it later

yeah, i'd be very interested in finding some polyurethane mounts for the motor. has anyone actually used the torque brace? how much of the play does it eliminate?

i know you asked rotary-mg, but just a question ...

since you had to do some fabrication to get the rotary into the MG, how hard would it be to modify it so you could use the polyurethane mounts available for another application?

Easy in my case.
I fabricated a mount using the stock RX7 rubber mounts
that look like pancakes.

But I can in theory use just about any motor mount as long as I can figure out how to configure it to work with the front cover of the -SE. If I could go into the back room of Energy Suspension and look around, I'm sure that I could find something that'll work for me.

But the plain old torque link may be all I need.

Here's a picture.
The one problem I have is that the base of the mount is so narrow that the engine will rock side to side with the torque, so I must use a torque link. I should add that this is prior to welding. The square bar going under the front of the oil pan is only to level the engine and removed afterward.

A guy I met with a Supercharged 13B in his Midget used a torque link.

I got the car with a '73 12A in it. All I did was put a 13B in it.
