Well I got an 82 Stock RX-7 and I was wondering what I can do to it to make it run smoother, maybe get a few more hp and some acceleration. I haven't modded much before, however I'm technically inclined and want to do this myself.

Replace the restrictive stock exhaust system with a proper header, and remove the catalytic converters. Then you can do away with the air pump, air control valve and a slew of other non-essential fooferaw. That will make the biggest difference in power without internal engine mods. You can do it all yourself, if you are mechanically inclined.

Basic tune-up/maintance (sp) is a good step in the right direction:
-New plugs (NGKs are highly recommended)
-Oil change (filter and oil)
-Fuel filter change
-Spark plug wire change
-Transmission and Diff fluid change (redline is nice but $$$)
HP mods:
Racingbeat header, presilencer and exhaust
-quoted for 20% hp increase at redline
Electric fan
-removes parasitic drag from mechanical fan
K&N filter
-less restrictive air filter
DLIDFIS
-direct fire ignition system. do a search to learn more about the results/method
Suspension:
New tires
-most bestest thing you can do for handling
Tokico Shocks
-second bestest
Otherwise you can always do a search for these things.
Good luck and welcome to the board!

if your car isn't a GSL then you will want to swap in a GSL rear end, it has LSD and disk brakes, that will make a notable difference. Assuming you wanna keep the stock carb then do the mechanical secondaries mod, in addition to the things already listed. A full exhaust will be the biggest thing though, do that first.

1. exhaust
2. plugs, plug wires, and the like
3. pull a/c, a/p, rats nest, etc
4. do mechanical secondaries
5. upgrade to lsd (if needed)
6. fuel pump, and regulator
7. Direct fire ignition
this should help with the hp gain!
