Talking MMMMMM.... fresh rebuild!!

So if any of you have seen any of my recent posts you'll know that I've been building an engine for a friend of mine. This is an 85 12a that we pulled from a running GS, it had about 160k miles on it and was more than a little tired.

Well, a few weeks later (i work full time and go to school full time), we have this. Medium Sized streetport on the intake and a nice big ole D-Port on the exhaust. He wanted to use Atkins internals so he's got all new seals from them including solid corners and FD springs. I'll be slapping an OER 47mm on it as soon as it gets here and then we'll be breaking in the motor (new bearings). Hoping for around 180 or so at the wheel. This is going in a home-built "Locost" Lotus Super 7. We're using all FB running gear including rear axle and brakes. The car was just over 1300 lbs with the driver in it and fully suited... should be one helluva ride. I will post some pics once we're dropping it in to the chassis.

here are some pics of the engine and a google image of the type of car it's going in.

Nice, put some freeze plugs in those coolant openings on the housings.

Whats up with the water pump and housing? I see the mismatch on the pump to
housing gasket on that lower corner.

Got any pics of the ports you did?

I like the grey color. What color grey paint is that? Brand? etc.

In that light of a vehicle, I hope he wears diapers the first time he tries it out

Yeah picking up freeze plugs from Pep Boys today probably... so little time..so much work. LOL

I noticed the mismatch too, I'm thinking it's an FC pump housing and an FB pump. Shouldn't leak though. FC's just have an extra hole.

I have some pics of the ports somewhere, just can't find them. I'll post when I do.

And you're right... diapers are a must. We'll be doing a couple track days at Sebring when I finish my 12a Turbo build... might even go visit Billy and Road Atlanta.

Just saw an episode of Top Gear last night when they built a Super 7. You've just given me an idea that my wallet can't satisfy!

Super 7's are amazing cars.... I like the fact this is a "7 Powered Super 7" I'm almost more excited about his build than mine... seriously.

anybody that's interested in how to build their own can read up here: http://www.locostusa.com/forums/

as for the paints they're just Duplicolor Engine Enamel.. Red and Cast Grey. I wasn't sure how the color combo would look but i'm really starting to like it. The Cast Grey has a little metalic in it and lays down super smooth, definitely one of the better Duplicolor colors.

That's not a mismatch on the water pump housing. That's where the bracket for the air pump bolts to.

AHA! Thanks for the info. We don't usually see the pumps or brackets installed here in FL since we don't have inspections or emissions testing.

Thanks! I wasn't crazy about it at first because it had a brownish tint before it cured, but it's definitely grown on me. I'm going to be polishing my housings and front cover to match a few of my other shiny bits... i'll post pics of it when done.

I wanted him to half bridge it, but he didn't want to spend the extra $$$ for hardened gears and 3 window bearings. I'm thinking this one should make power up to 8500 or so. The car weighs 1300 lbs wet and loaded... it's going to be a rocket ship with this engine!!!!

thank you sir!

here's a video of the same car we're building, but this one has a stockport GSL-SE with a 45 DCOE. We'll be running a 47 OER on our ported 12a.

The car he is following is Alex Pfeiffer, his Lotus is powered by a 4AGT, and the rotary keeps up just fine...

Unfortunate for who? I wish my girlfriend had a C-class; but then I'm sure my wife would be pissed! Sounds like you're paying your cards right.

Again - Kudos on the re-build.

which would your wife be more pissed at? The fact that you have a girlfriend, or the fact that your girlfriend has a nicer car than her? lol

Hey Guys,

Here's some pics of the Lotus build and the engine in her new home. I also stripped and painted the transmission to match the engine. Keep in mind, there is more money spent on the engine than the whole rest of the car. This thing is a true "LoCost". I'm not in any of those pics, but the guy you see doing all the welding is my buddy Tom, he's one helluva fabricator. Enjoy guys!
