How do you remove the electric mirrors?

They wont turn, so I can't get to the baseplate screws. And the screws on the mirror itself have rusted to crap. Any advice?

If i have to, I'll just cut out that section of the door!!

Liquid Wrench and Vice Grips if the heads are protruding... Or just push them, you can forcibly turn them w/o the motor... the carwash does it all the time :P

It depends what model you have, are they the "bullet style" (USA) or the ugly european style? You can push them away, no problem.

It's a european thing - but they havn't worked since I got the damn thing!

I can get to the screws on the front, but the wingmirror's covering up the rear two.

The screws are all recessed into the mirror - and if I try to turn the mirror to get to the other screws, the whole door panel twists, and it seems like I'm going to rip the mirror in two!!

There's a screw on either side of the baseplate, and on either side of the underside of the mirror.

So would you think i could get away with an industrial size can of WD40 and brute force? or would this just knacker the mirror?

The car itself doesn't matter since I'm scrapping it, but i don't really want to start cutting out large chunks of metal if I can!!!!

If they are the large european style electric mirrors, they can be pushed (there's no motor drive there) The motors are in the "wing", not the base, so the base is "foldable", as per EU regulations. However, it's pretty common to see them stuck after a few years of service.
The will-not-fold problem has nothing to do with the will-not-operate-by-using-the-mirror-adjustment-switch.
I'd suggest WD40 indeed, and then, some brutal force to finish it off. It MUST work that way.
I know they can be pain, I had some simular problems replacing mine. They were EU only (because of the rules) so the guys on the forum here might not know our problem...

Me, i like the shape of the european rx7 rear view mirrors, and would like to buy some for one of my 7's
unless they are crap, then forget it. I also like the Ausi.
front turn signal lenes. I made my own lenes just like the ausi's. i'll have to wait for the mirrors.
