Unhappy might be saying Bye-Bye to the Rex...

Well after spending the 5 years in SoCal wth a sport bike, and loosing it but a yea ago, I might b getting another one soon. I have aguywho is thinking about trading me title for title to hs 98 Ducati ST2. He just layed it down and all the plastic i torn up as well as one of the Pipes, but other than that it is still in grat shape. If this does hapen I will not be gettin a car agan for a while, and probably not a Rex. (with my wife and son a 2 seat car just dont work..)

just miss being able ride fast when its safe. That was a rush. My 1970 Norton just dsent have the performance that I want. its fun to cruise on, I mean I get all the looks, but I also want th speed. I had a GSXR 750, and I miss the power andperformance. There wasnt much that could compete with it, but now I always get my *** kicked.

Well what do you all think?

There I edited it. now you can all stop hating on me.

Mike

I really like my kawasaki 750rr , but its gonna get sold to make $$$'s for performance mods to the car. Im really gonna miss it, but with as crazy as my *** is, Ill end up dead or in jail. So a fast car on the track is probally gonna be better for me...

I had the option of hitting a car or taking the gravel on the shoulder and I chose the shoulder, laid it down and like a dummass I stayed on it Next time when you gonna loose the bike, just get off it. Its not as bad as it would be with 400 pounds on top of your leg sliding down the concrete...

Good luck with what ever you decide

Personally, I think that if you are planning on riding the way you just described, you deserve to have someone open their door and let you splat into it like a bug...And, if you do get the bike and ride it the way you just talked about, I hope that your family will understand that you died because you were stupid...But thats just IMO. As far as the deal, I think I would rather have a Ducati over my 7 as well, but then again I have 4 goldwings and a Magna 750 as well as numerous other dirtbikes, so I dont really need another bike. Also, how is a Ducati any more of a family vehicle than an RX-7?

~T.J.

PS - I dont mean to be a flamer or whatever, but I think that people that ride the way you are talking about give all of us bike riders a bad name, I can understand wanting to have fun, but driving wherever you want on the road, and at whatever speed you want isint the best way to do it...Track time is just as fun, and its a "controlled" environment.

How do you trash the pipes on a Ducati? Don't they exit under the seat?

That is gonna cost an assload to fix. Buying plastic sucks.

i like to go fast just like everyone else,
hell if theres no traffic you wont catch me under 100mph
and thats in the g/f's woo,

but weaving in and out of traffic and going in between cars at break neck speeds is not my bag of chips.

Perhaps you're not yet mature enough to appreciate such a fine machine.
When you are, you never describe the way you ride...you just do it.

Further, it was pretty damn stupid to even mention the way you ride, and your family in the same post.
It shows how skewed your priorities are.

You're a 27 year old who thinks "nothin's gonna happen" to him.
Pretty typical of 4 people I know (knew) who splattered themselves on bikes.
Well ya know, one's alive...sorta. He'll never walk again. Or be completely independant.
Or ****.
Oh yeah...He ***** in a little baggy-on-a-belt.

I guess it's only worse than death until you actually face the option.

Nipplebandit, do your family a favor, stick with the seven, and keep the Norton. Let your boy grow up to appreciate cars instead of bikes. You'll be so thankful you did when you're fifty!

Damn, I am impressed with the maturity of the members
of this thread.

Nipplebandit, As a former Marine to another, I am telling you, that phase of "I am indestructible" will be over.

You have a family now, if anything, finance an SUV and keep the Rex. Motorcycles are not fun when there are other A-holes on the street.

It doesn't matter how well you may drive, you can be parked and they will crash into you. I've seen it happen.

In my Department, the Motormen (Motorcycle cops) have a saying, "It's not IF you go down, but WHEN you go down."

Sorry if you feel like were bashing you man, its just that im only 18 (just turned on the 15th) and I've already lost two friends that rode bikes, and I've bees riding since I was 6, so things like this kinda get to me. Anyway, I just wanna be clear that Im not trying to bash you personally, its just a sensitive subject to me. Once again, sorry man.

~T.J.

PS - Im with V8Kilr, we all do it, we just dont talk about it, but there is a point when you need to realize that it isint as safe anymore...

Guess I shouln't have posted this here. diddnt think about the fact that most of you are flame happy.

Ive been riding motor bikes since I was 12, and been on the street since I was 16. Yes I understand that **** does happen. NO I am NOT saying that i am to good to crash.

Yes Splitting is legal in Cali. otherwise the bikes tend to overheat and blowup on the freeways.

Yes I was stupid on my last bike. Yes thought that was un-touchable. I sold it becaus I lost control on the freeway her and got run off the side. I shouldnt be here now.

Yes Ive matured.

No I would not take my kid in my rex. I dont trust it. When I get the bike I wont have to worry about taking him on it now will I?

Sorry to hear about your losses of friends. Ive lost friends to. when I was 15 my girlfriend was talking to me from about 2 feet away when she got hit in the neck by a stray bullet from a little gang banger doing a drive by. Should hate all guns? I dont think so. Three years ago I escorted my best friends body home in my Dress Blues after he died in a Motorcycle accident. We were parked on Palomar Road here in SoCal and a car lost control and ran him and his ZX-9 over. Should this cause me to hate all sport bikes?

I dont think so.

Ive changed. I have more self control.

Maybe I souldnt have posted that. Sorry ifyou all are Butt Hurt over what I said.

Here let me sum it up for you all:

1. Im not stupid or close minded like some of you seem to be.

2. I dont feel safe in my Rex.

3. I feel safer on a bike that I know everything works on.

4. I dont have the technical expertise to restore and maintain my rex.

5. Im getting the Ducati.

6. Im selling my rex. 84 GS. Good motor in it, blown motor in a box (lost the apex seals on the rear rotor). air to oil cooler not installed. Koni adjustable rear shocks. $1000 or make offer. If its shipped to you, you make the arrangements. Im tired of it.

at least this is how I feel right now. Been a Real bad couple of weeks, so I might just b quick to rise....

MIke

Well I should've known by your initial statements that you already had all the answers!
You asked what we thought, and then apparently did'nt like it much!

I told ya not to get it because you could end up dead or crippled; and the risk to your wife to possibly have to change your diapers and constantly wipe the drool from the left side of your frozen-stupid face for the rest of your life was borne out of pure selfishness on your part.

You think THAT was a flame?
Well here you go, Nipplebandit; my very own personal selfish reason why I don't think you should get the bike...

You represent the punk-*** super-biker that us people driving one of those cars you split in between...
ABSOLUTELY CANNOT ******* STAND!

The combination of being frieghtened while trying to concentrate on the road while wondering if the idiot driving the semi in front of you is falling asleep at the wheel @ 90 MPH- with absolute anger for that ******* that just blew by you, all swirl together with an instant feeling of a tinge of fear that your 7 year old niece and 5 year old nephew in the backseat could in fact wind up visually traumatized should they happen to catch a glimpse of an identifiable part of that ******** body on the road up ahead.
At the same time you have total contempt for that biker and you hope something bad happens to him- not painful, mind you; but like he gets his liscence yanked, or his engine blows up, leaving him stranded with noone wanting to give him a lift.
Then of course rage takes over for me, and I myself feel like BASHING HIS ******* FACE IN WITH HIS HEMET...But hey, ya know...that's just me.

SUVs with their deer-jackin' size spot-light having friggin headlights, riding my *** so close at night so as to be able to read the tag on my under-shirt...Even these ******** don't compare to some of these guys on bikes.
These punks make the rider of every beautiful superbike perched on it's kickstand at the ice-cream places, delis or general stores out here in rural NY, suspect in the eyes of everyone who drives a car on the road.
And 95% of them are really very cool and courtious to autodrivers.

Nipplebandit, you asked what we thought.
I was being nice to you, brother. I told you not to get it for fear you'd be hurt; like you would say to a "rotary brother".
Now you know the other reason!
You just said too damn much, man!

Get the bike, dude. Fix it. Love it. Clean it with a toothbrush.
Ride it however you want.
But just don't talk about how crazy you ride- not here amoung car enthusiasts - the majority of which think of riders like yourself as pests!

Ok. I edited my original post. I diddnt realise that so many people would get Butt Hurt over what I said.

How many of you race from stop light to stop light? shoud I search past threads to find people talking about it? I wont wast my time.

I guess I shouldnt have said what i did and for that I apologise.

I have never felt safe in any car, but especially not in my Rex. Its too small and cramped. It just gives the impression that If I were to get into any kind of serious accident it would simply fold up into a small little ball around me, and turn me into a little puddle of goo.

Yes I know that if I lay my bike down on the freeway at speed I can and will get hurt. Im not that stupid, even though a lot of you think that I am.

Wha I do know is this. I love bikes. I feel safer and more in control on one. Having a Ducati has always been one of my dreams, and now I am getting my dream. Again, sorry if this offends you. I know MY limits on a bike. I know what I can handle. YEs people are stupid. Some Other drivers dont know what the **** they are doing. I cant help that. Hell this morning a guy in a red second gen tossed a lit cigarett out of his drivers window as I was passing him and it hit me in the windscreen of my helmet. talk about a shock to the system. Yes it was a legal passing zone, he was going 35 and slowing down for a turn off the road, it was a 55 zone and I was doing 55. Some drivers are stupid.

Some one asked me how the Pipe was damaged as it is under the seat. that is only on the 916, 996, 998 and the 748. the rest are on the side of the bike. giving a slightly wider stance. I think they look better when they arent under the seat any way...

You are also right, I dont really like the responce that I got from my original post. I apologise for saying that. You may all now stop calling me stupid, flaming me, and PMing me as to how stupid I am. That just shows how simple minded SOME of you are. Most of the people here I respect, but some are ********. those people know who you are.

I guess I could generalise like some of you are and say the since a few of you PMed me being rude, stupid and immature, that all the people on this board are like that. But you know as well as I do that that isnt the case. there are just a select few that are bad.

I like this style better too, doesn't look nearly as cramped and allows the rider to look like part of the bike instead of hunching over it. Just thought I'd throw that in there. Sorry to interrupt.

I dunno about you, but I'd feel MUCH safer in a 4 wheel anything than a 2 wheel anything, because bikes are SMALL, and Suzy Soccer Mom doesn't see small things very well when she's driving her Supremely Useless Vehicle (SUV) and is liable to just change lanes without signaling and swerve right into you. If it weren't for other drivers on the road, I'd probably have myself a sport bike.

Me too I feel safer on a motorcycle....
Guess you need to drive a sport bike to really understand.
But still, I agree that 95% of sport bike drivers are ***. I only respect those wearing full leather suit and keeping their bike near the speed limit. Keep the throtle down, but keep it the same way in turns

Damn I should have kept my eyes on this thread. Seems it has become somewhat a heated debate

Dude I didnt bash ya when I seen the orginal post, I thought about it, but what you do is your decision its your life...

I had a buddy of mine here that was into superbike racing... Anyone remember Johnny Morris? He crashed at Dayona, in 96 I think... Somehow he lost control and slid at about 140 mph and hit the wall...

Good luck and be careful dude, and think about your wife and your little girl/boy? when you think about doing something dumm
