Talking Mechanical Secondaries : The testimonial

So, I was driving back from Rx7Carl's place, and I'm on a 2-lane diveded highway (1 lane each way with occasional 2-lane passing sections). Haven't really had a chance to play with the mech secondaries because I was just "regular" driving. After passing a few cars and enjoying it, I get stuck behind a brand new 03 cavalier (complete with 30 day temp tag). He's fluctuating between 60 and 80 mph, but can't make up his mind. Everytime I get close to start to pass, the dork accelerates enough to make me back off, then he slows down.

After a few miles of this happy horseshit, we hit a passing lane, so I drop into 4th and start moving around him - he starts accelerating, so I kick in the secondaries and pass him at 85.

This complete and utter idiot decides to suddenly drive 85 in an attempt to pass me. Heheheh. I shake my head, drop it into 3rd and leave him in a literal puff of smoke as I kick it into 4th (oil seals leaky). He keeps coming... 90, 100, 110 before he realizes he can't catch me, pass me or keep up with me. I hit 120 as he starts fading fast in my rearview, and I leisurely keep passing cars.

Needless to say, I really think this is a worthwhile mod, and 03 Cavaliers need to pick on something they can take... like some friggen Hondas

Thats pretty cool, I didn't know these cars could take a new cavalier.
But, you downshifted to 3rd at 85mph? Thats ~8500rpm!

Actually 3rd gear would be 100mph around about. I can vouch for that. he he. Bridgeport 12a, thats why. 1st gear is about 50mph 8500rpm, 2nd 70mph 8500rpm, and so on.

bah, cavaliers are gay. the ghetto american version of the civic. Good kill man, show that ****** his place. Mechanical secondaries kick major ***. I smoked a mustang on the highway last fall, it was probably a v6, but still i hit the secondaries in 3rd, redlined it, into 4th let the secondaries blaze, let off when i hit 95mph. He was a car length behind me the whole time. Our cars are quite fast when your already moving, like racing on a highway, but from a standstill we would get our doors blown off.

I took 3rd up to about ~8500ish iirc. I did that mainly for the extra smoke puff since I was already on the powerband (~5000 rpm) in 4th gear. I tell you - as much as I'm upset that the rebuilt engine I bought has seals that aren't seated - I'll be happy when I streetport the bitch

Do you notice any difference in your car starting procedure, now that you have the mechanical secondaries........or at least, since you installed them?

Someone told me that I should get the carb re-adjusted after having the mech/secs set up. I used to have to pull choke all the way out, turn key for 3 seconds, pump gas twice......and it would fire right up.

Now, I cant use the gas pedal, or choke AT ALL when starting. It will crank for 10 seconds.....start up, die out. Crank for a few, start up, die out. crank, start, gas, instant death.

This happens like 5-10 times......then I can use the gas to rev it up high enough, to pull the choke out.

Anyone else have this problem after rigging up the mech/secs?

Haven't had any problems starting it up, but I never did mash the pedal down when I was pumping it. I imagine if you are opening the secondaries while starting, you very well could flood the engine, but YMMV.
