Exclamation Make it stop!!!

Ok so I took my 85 GSL-SE to the cars wash and I think it's mad because I didn't hand wash it like I always do. The car wash was high pressure water and no brushs. About half way through the alarm buzzer started to go off and hasn't stopped. The buzzer used to go off when first started in the cold Indiana winters, but hasn't since it's been moved here to New Mexico. There is no performance diff and I just want to know how to make it stop. Thank you in advance for your help.

Always Handwash Always! I Had A Back Window Bust Out In An Acura Intergra Because The Washer Got Caught In The Back Window Wiper And Busted The Whole Window Ruining The Entire Hatch.
So From Now On I Always Handwash.

*Waves magical hands* "Stop buzzin car.... Stop buzzing for me and my magical hands."

Sorry, I have no idea what the hell is going on with your car. That really sucks that my magic hands aren't good enough to stop the buzzer.

I don't know but i'll take a guess. Usally only in cold weather means its a connection. Most likely the wiring is aluminum and aluminum shrinks and expands in weather. You might have knocked something loose and it's constantly touching. You need to trace the buzzers wire back to the source.

It is probably the oscillator. It is located near the battery just behind the driver side headlight. It is a little black box and it will say "oscillator" on it if the markings aren't worn off. The purpose of the oscillator is to make a buzzing noise when the coolant level or oil level is low. You can unplug the oscillator and see if the buzzing goes away. You can leave it unplugged. The warning lights will stilll work, you just won't have the buzzer that goes with it. The oscillator can create this buzzing when they get wet.

I had the same problem when my engine bay was cleaned. I pulled the fuse under the dash for the buzzer and waited a few days for things to dry. I put the fuse back in and no buzzer. So it must be something that gets wet.

Yeah, its the oscillator. Nothing else sounds quite like it. I unplugged mine years ago due to this issue, haven't missed it once.

Hey thanks for the info, I can once again enjoy driving and listening to the wonderful motor and not that damn OSCILLATOR! This is one other reason that I love owning an RX-7, because everyone else whom owns one loves it and will help whennever possible. thanks again!

Just keep in mind that although a lot of us have simply removed the oscillator, it does serve a purpose. I removed mine because I constantly watch my gauges and such....

Can't tell you for sure right off the bat which alarms it will sound for, but I think maybe its something like this:

low water level
high water temp

maybe not those, maybe some others instead. Like I said, not sure. A search will reveal all though...

Low water and low oil. It would be nice if it did go off during overheating, but it doesn't

I have been watching this thread for a while, hoping to come up with an answer. I had an autocross the weekend before christmas, and as I was leaving I heard a faint but distinct buzzer going off. I checked both doors, lights, water, oil, no warning lights on. I know that they all work as the low coolant light would come on before I fixed a coolant leak, and the low oil comes on at startup.
I had read that someone else's car started buzzing after running it hard but I am stumped. It does it once I start the car, continues while running, then ongoing until the key is removed, even in off pos. I have disconnected the oscillator, to no avail, cleaned both door terminals, jiggled the fuses, but see no fuse labled buzzer. Luckily I have a tranny with a whine to it, and an exhaust leak, coupled with the radio to drown it out, but it is getting to me now!! Any advice????

Cheers,
Travis

I believe there is a seperate 'key in ignition' buzzer. Sounds like your issue.

Same issue here, it happends once in a while. Does the sound for you come from behind the dash? Yet it doesnt sound like the door jam sound? thats what i have. its almost defening, but it only happends for like 15 minutes then it goes away, maybe once a month. Annoying tho. Maybe its the oscillator. Il have to remove that some time soon.

The oscillator is not a quiet buzzer. It will feel like someone jamming a 6 inch screwdriver into your ear and then adding high voltage to it. Makes the car damn near undriveable...

Yep I had to park mine for three weeks while I was trying to figure out what it was and the dogs still won't get in the car with me. Definately a high voltage screeching sound that sounds much worse than just a warning buzzer, so I was wondering if making that noise is it's real purpose or does it just do that when it goes bad?
