Low oil pressure

My oil pressure goes down to like 30psi and never goes over 60psi. I do have a slight leak in my oil pan gasket. Would the low pressure just be from the leak or do i have another problem?

probably not the leak. get a mechanical gauge from a parts store and put it where the electric one usually goes then get a good reading.

If you're going off of what the stock gauge says... well, don't.

should be fairly easy, i haven't installed one myself, but its pretty straight forward as far as i know, hardest part is probably finding a spot to put it at, it should also come with instructions and all that good stuff.

Simplest way to add an aftermarket op gauge is to cut the head off of the stock 'mushroom' sender, tap the 'stem' with a 3/8" NPT, then install the new gauge and sender.

Thanks for the help. I will be getting a new gauge within the next week or so. The hard part will be finding time to put it in.

What weight of oil would you recommend for my stock 12a? It has a weber 48ida carb.

Cut the 'stalk' off of the mushroom head at the red line. Tap with a 3/8" NPT tap. Hole is close enough to the correct pilot size it doesn't need drilling. Screw the stalk back into the engine block, then install the sender from the new mechanical gauge.

I had to kill a stock mushroom once when the BSP to NPT adaptor that came with the guage cracked. Cheap piece of junk. Then I tried a steel (not "to steal an") adapter from a Ricer car. It leaked which wasn't too surprising. I finally broke down and canibalized the mushroom and all is well, excpet for the unusable stock mushroom 'cap'.

Now I'm gettin' hungry for some mushrooms.

30 psi of pressure at idle is good. 70 psi at full throttle is stock. nothing is wrong with your car.

Mushrooms? Around here they got hunt morels in the woods. Heard they were going for 24 bucks a pound this spring. Now the 'other' kind are only legal in Native American Church cermonies. Been there, done that.

Anyway it seems yet another BSP to NPT adaptor has a leak. Looks like I'll have to gut another mushroom.
