loud fuel pumps

hi guys and girls, ive seen many threads sayin the carter is one of the best in an fb but its also loud, well i have a stock fuel pump and am going to get a carter 8 psi soon anyways. but i was driving my car one day and noticed a rattling in the drivers rear, so i pulled over and my fuel pump was rattling or making loud noise. i also notice it is very loud when the engine is off and the key is on, i pulled the fuel pump down and noticed the supports and bolts were ok, so if this stock one is loud i cant imagine a carter. now that i know that rattle noise is the fuel pump i hear it all the time, even with the radio on. Y are they so loud, and is the arter much louder or.... i dont know but this pump is pretty darn loud for stock anyways. also does anyone know wat the stock fuel pump gives for pressure?? thanks in advance.

check your fuel filter it could be loud because it may be getting clogged & check the position of the flow on the pump. they do make noise but it shouldn't be very loud but as for the carter it's pretty loud i have 2 fascet pumps on mine for the delortos on my fb 13B they arent that loud but noticeable

I want to say that stock pressure was 2.5 to 3 range which is the right area that the nikki wants. Its the flow that sucks on the stock pumps. That why the carter is a good choice. Fairly cheap, and not huge (physically) like a Holley pump. As far as loudness, I am much happier with the Carter than the Holley red I used to have.

I had a Carter for years on my 83 with the Yaw carb, and it was loud, but I lived with it because you couldn't hear it whil the Racing Beat exhaust was singing its tune.I now have a Walbro pump, and even it makes noise, but not much.I didn't even want the Walbro, but friend of mine who is **** about cars bought it for me when I was swapping the carb from my 83 to my new 79 GS because HE couldn't stand the Carter in my car. It is no big deal to me about the noise as I only hear it before I start the car,and maybe at traffic lights.

Holley blue and very loud, but it doesnt help jammed between the body and pump plate. Soon will be insulated for a slight decrease in noise pollution.

Same here,I have the dual facets for my Dell. You can hear em before you crank but they aren't noticable once the engines running.

if you think holley and carters are loud, wait till you use walbro. i'd personally just use a stock FD fuel pump, w/ a adjustable rising rate fpr.

my old mallory pump was louder than the holley red i have now. i personally wouldnt worry about how loud it is as long as it gets the job done.

I think installation has alot to do with the loudness of the pump. Try using sound deading material or rubber gaskets when mounting it helps.
