Angry Lots of smoke

Just bought an 85 gs auto at a garage sale not running. I popped in new plugs and pulled the choke and it fired up but it smokes like a frieght train when you rev it. I fear it is an internal oil control problem but I am hoping to atleast get it to not produce a huge cloud as I rev the motor. I also found an oil leak on the passenger side of the motor in the front where the carb connects to a long shaft down to a lever connected to a device I have yet to identify. It is bolted to the front cover with 2 10mm bolts and has 2 vaccum lines going to it. I pulled the lines and oil poured out.

well, the device connected by lines is the OMP (Oil metering pump) it provides a small amount of oil to the air/fuel mixture to lubricate the internal seals of the engine...

That "device" is the oil metering for your engine. it pumps oil to your carb to lubricate the seals(rotor) in your engine. Take care of it or you are going to be in a world of hurt. Take a minute and read up on the oil system for the rotary, it will save your life dude! Smole is a whole other problem. Internal oil rings might be passing oil under pressure when you rev the engine. Oil presure builds when you press the gas.

Dude, is this how you normally work on cars? 5 minutes with manual would have told you that oil is suppose to be in those lines, hope you didn't break them. People that don't have any idea of what there doing and just start randomly tinkering with stuff is one of my biggest pet peeves.

I do not have a manual yet for this car. I noticed the leak coming from the lines so I pulled them (engine off) and the top one was all cracked to hell. One of my petpeves is people who judge others before they know them.

replace everything that is rotted or cracked and go from there. Haynes has a manual and PepBoys normally carries it. 16 bucks

People who just get on the computer and start typing without consulting a dictionary to know the difference between "there", "they're" and "their" is one of my biggest pet peeves.

Thanks for all the info. I had to order a Haynes manual since Autozone is the only place I know of that carries them and they were out. I am sorry if i sounded like a jerk earlier but this is my first rotary and if the motor is hosed, I think I will drop in the 351W and T-5 my friend has in his garage and before anyone gives me the old "its harded than it looks" speech, I know it is not a drop in and go. I have done swaps on my cars and even the ones that look easy turn out to be a chore.

I must have missed where you said, "Congratulations, hope you have a lot of fun working on your new car?"

And before you bitch at someone about how they go about doing things, check your own work. In addition to the use of "there" for "they're", you should have replaced the comma after "lines" with a period and started a new sentence with "I hope." Just one of my pet peeves.
