what am I doing wrong??? carb problems STILL
My car is running so rich that its smoking, the inside of my tailpipes look like the inside of a chimney with all the black soot thats in them. THe inside of the carb throaght is alway soaked, when I shut it off "fog" comes out the top of my carb, and theres no way to start it without holding the gas to the floor and cranking the hell out of it. I've gone through the carb, cleaned everything , blew through all the passage ways with carb cleaner, then with the air compressor, I changed all the gaskets, o-rings, accelerator pump, power valve, needles/seats, the floats are adjusted low enough that when I pull the plugs out of the front of the float bowls, no fuel comes out. Why is this thing still flooding?

The jets play a big part in your air fuel ratio. Find a buddy with a jet kit and start changing your primaries... I don't think the RB holley uses jets in the secondaries.

Oh no jets don't go bad...I had assumed that you were just setting this carb up for the first time.
Well if your floats are not stuck up...you said they are turned down. I would conferm your fuel pressure...but again if you had to high a fuel pressure it still should be comming out the sight plugs.
Ok how about your ignition, check to see if everything is ok. If your trailing is having problems than you won't be burning all the fuel.

Yes it would...flooding is basicaly your sparkplugs getting wet and not igniting because they can't burn all the fuel. If your trailing plugs arn't working than you arn't burning all the fuel.
I don't know if the "fog" in the carb is realy a bad thing. I have had several V8's that do that and they ran fine.

can the fuel pump suddenly start putting out too much pressure? and if so , wouldnt the bowls fill up? when I pull the level check plugs out, no fuel comes out of them, I'm not sure which barrels are flooding, all I think, it runs rough, but will idle and stay running, but once you shut it off, wheter its overnight ,or for just a second, you have to floor it and crank the hell out of it

all four plugs are firing evenly, all burning the same too. odd thing, If I pull the vacum line for the brakes, the car almost dies, but if I leave it on and pull the vac line for the cruise control, the idle jumps up and the engine smooths out

I just sprayed some carb cleaner on the outside of my carb and the engine died
I think its leaking at the base of the carb where it meets the manifold, its got a new gasket, this cant be good

No, fuel pumps usually fail the other way. Just trying to think of what can be causing this. And I'd suggest you put the float levels back where they belong.
Maybe the gasket area isint clean? Pull it and look for a problem. I hope you didnt crack the baseplate.

the cars been sitting for over a half hour with the hood open, no air cleaner, and the throttle plates are soaked, there's also a slight leak around the throttle plate shaft where it comes out the back of the carb..... is it time to junk it?

Which plates? Nah, even if the bores in the baseplate are worn out, you can buy replacement parts. Just alot of work to transfer it all over. ****** Holley junk engineering. Very well could be warped. Holleys are notorious for that. A good Holley race carb builder can resurface it. They do that on every holley cause they are made so shitty.

I can't justify putting more money into trying to fix it when I don't know for sure whats wrong with it. even if I have it resurfaced, that would take care of my vacuum leak, but thats not going to take care of the flooding problem. I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and part it out

i dont know if the cab is like a 2 stoke setup but if you take it apart and blow through the intake gas line while the flots are on top and see if you can get some air going through it the neadle valve might be stuck open or stuff might be stuck on it letting gas out

no way man take it around and see what mechanics can work on it. Just yank the carb off and have someone look at it. Change the carb out man, it could be junk man you never know. replace the carb and intake.
