Lost Seven : Needs Love

There is this red RX-7 sitting out in someones driveway, guess it's been sitting there for two years. (Pretty obvious, very dull paint, not a whole lot of visible rust, but still it's there and the tires are most likely rot...oh and the front brake rotors are rusted to all hell)

It's an 85 GS. Interior is in REALLY nice condition. At least, compared to my 82. I was thinking about getting it, but it doesn't run at the moment. Starter just spins the motor. Didn't have time to check for spark. We could see puffs of smoke coming out the rear of the muffler. Dunno if it's flooded or perhaps the gas is just plain nasty, considering it's been sitting for 2 years. We put some seafoam in the gas tank to see if it'd help any bit, but no luck. What do you guys suggest for a Rex that's been sitting for that long? The guy said when he pulled it into the driveway two years ago it ran perfect. It's only got 106k miles on it.

I'd love to get it as a car for parts, but I live in apartments and a dirty car like this isn't gonna fly with the city or manager of the apartments.

By the way, how much would you guys offer for this car? I was thinking somewhere around $200...maybe more if it ran. I got mine for $500 and it's in MUCH better condition.

If you want to keep the buying price on the lower end and you don't mind towing it- leave it as failing to start and buy it. I've bought an RX-7 in that condition once and did the ATF trick on it when I got it home. It managed to get the engine both running smooth with lots of power.
Keep in mind that while buying under this premise, you run the risk of getting an engine that requires a rebuild. If the body's in great shape, then go for it. Then do an engine swap.

Well I had this problem, but in a much worse way when I got my car. My car sat for 12 years without any fresh gas in it.... Ok well one way or another you need to get that old gas out. You could disconnect the fuel line and run it dry, then with the biggest fullest gas can you can carry start filling it. Change the fuel filter, and then get the gas to come back to the carb. That carb will be the next thing to worry about, you'll need it rebuild. That should get rid of your little fuel problem and get that baby started. To help it for its inital start use some good starting fluid with upper cylinder lubricant in it, thats pretty important until its ran for a while. Try it out, and yes it would be worth $200 for sure.
