Looking for 1st Gen Mechanic in Orange County, CA

I am the original owner of a 1985 RX-7 GSL-SE and have not been successful finding a mechanic with enough knowledge how to fix my idle problem.

Whenever the AC is turned on, the load causes the idle to fall and the car may stall. I have replace the TPS sensor with a brand new one and had the ECM checked and there are no vacuum leaks. I replaced the Bypass Air Control Valve (BAC) but that had no affect. I have read the many threads in this club but cannot figure out the problem. I am done guessing and replacing parts and now seek someone who knows how to do this type of diagnostic work.

If you know someone in the Orange County, CA area, please let me know.

TIA.

welcome to the board.

i can't help you with the mechanic in OC, but figured i'd ask: have you looked into the rat's nest connection to the A/C?

You might need to go north into LA. I'm not familiar with the shops there other than Lucky 7 and Mazdatrix who might have a reference.

I as well can't help you with a mechanic recommendation but if you are still open to solving it yourself, this document has been floating around for 25 years now. If you haven't already found it on this forum, it's worth a look:

Good luck!

My go to guys are on instagram :
eddyrenown Or Turbo_Dave . Both of them work on first gens and know their stuff and are honest hardworking guys and have a quick turn around and don't charge much , the "con's" are they work out if their backyards but that's under selling them as they have ALL the right tools and do some of the best porting jobs in so cal. They rebuilt my 12a engine but both are pro's at the 13b's . You can also go with Jeff , i forget what shop he owns off the top of my head but he is in Gardena , pro's dude is super professional , con's pricy and you will be without the car for at least 6 months if you need a rebuild. This is LA but I drive to orange daily so you can do the 50 min drive to them . r and r rotary ( Ryan Singh) also does great work but has a long turn around and he has only ever done my nikki's .

thought I’d ask you for advice, this is for a strictly off-road car, Baja bug. Currently have a blown 12a that was street ported, rebuilt, 48 Weber carb jetted out to 51 and was fun in hard packed and straightaways but sucked in sand or on hills because of the low torque. I don’t know what’s broken yet, Jeff at rotary power has it right now and has already told me 2300 to rebuild plus parts. When I asked what I could do to get more power and torque specifically he said nothing besides adding a turbo and that was expensive and I’m not willing to deal with it. I’m assuming I’m going to pay 4-5 to fix my 12a with adding msd ignition. He said he could build me a 13b periferal port that can push 300hp for just under 7k. From what I looked up the 13b automatically has 30lbs of torque which should be noticeable, then whatever work he can do on it to add power and torque would be much more noticeable so I’m asking you, for the extra 2-3 grand would you go the 13b route?
