Left over spring from rebuild. Last cry for help / detective work.

Always one part left over, but this one is a biggie. One last desperate try before I put the engine back in and find out where this part goes by seeing what does not work! Posted something couple of days ago, but adding some detail here. Maybe one of you kind folks can see something missing in the pics attached.

Looks like an actuator spring. Part is shown in the photo with my hand against a piece of card. Clues to what it may be:
- Was in a parts bag with the teeter totter spring that I removed from the carb, so educated guess is it came from the same area. I was having problems getting the throttle cable unhooked, and unsprung the teeter totter to make room.
- Nothing else was disassembled on the carb, aside from removing the carb from the intake manifold / black plastic spacer / heat shield. So has to be something that can be easily unhooked rather than unbolted.
- Looks very grubby / rusted compared to other springs I see in the carb which are silver and bright. Maybe from somewhere else entirely and I am barking up the wrong tree?

Have spent hours trying to solve this one. Watched an entire hour long video from RAD Potential of his carb guy rebuilding a Nikki. Sat on a chair with a flashlight and combed the carb for any empty spring slots or holes. Looked through parts list and photos for carb rebuild kits. Searched and scoured pics of peoples rebuilt carbs and carbs for sale. Prodded and pushed every linkage I can see and they all seem to have some form of spring resistance. Really am out of ideas and am going to put the engine back in and see what happens. Anyone got any ideas before I do that?

Check your Oil metering pump. There is a spring like that on the actuator lever to the pump.

My God, Mr Watson... Thats it! Pretty much as far from the throttle end of the carb as you can get. Lord knows how it ended up in the carb bits bag. I owe you access to my Scotch collection if you are ever in San Francisco.

Now I just got to get that OMP lever moving enough for the spring to actually be doing anything.

Glad to help,

Coincidentally, Im headed to San Francisco later this year for an adventure with my grand daughter who lives in Santa Rosa. We plan to drive the Pacific Coast highway.

Maybe I'll have a chance to take you up on the offer! LOL
