Latest buy - Starter Button
I was curious as to what it would look like and the quality, so I took the plunge. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than trolling for dead Hondas or buying one off eBay....
Problem--------->>> All the freakin' directions are in Japanese, including the box! This will be a joy to decipher because there is a box that looks like a relay box but it's pretty flat...wish me luck!

I think that's the idea.. but if you're using it in a race-only car, who is gonna be getting their hands on it other than you (hopefully) ? If you keep it in a locked garage except for race day, you're set...
Otherwise, you just make it that much easier for anyone to take off with your car, unless you have an alarm that doubles as a kill-switch for that button... Which isn't a bad idea... they could push it, rip it out, and try and hotwire all they wanted.. .just hide a killswitch somewhere under the dash high on the firewall and have it activated only by remote... then they'd be fucked when trying to start it!

you gotta turn the key to the "on" position to start your car still
The starter can turn allllllll it wants, but without the coils being charged, all it'll do is flood the engine really bad...

Yeah,
I used to play with S2000's all the time when I sold them.
You need to turn the key, or the button doesnt do anything. At least, thats the way it works on the S2000. Im sure, if you wanted to, you could wire it up, so only the button was needed, and no more keys.
I think its easier to do it with the ignition and key though. Basically, all you do is wire in an ON switch, in the wire of the power out on the ignition.

one question. why would you put the that on there in the first place unless it's a race car. i mean seriously all your doing is asking someone to steal your car. i don't see the point in it.

A lot of people (SCCA) don't see the point in 15", 16" or 17" rims on a 1stgen when you're faster with 13"s, so what's the point in doing that? See the point?...

just hide the started button inside the cigarette lighter recess, but make it so the ciggie lighter still sits in there!
or use the gicarett lighter itself as the kill switch just remove the heating element from the lighter, and wire the ignition through it, so you push it in to run.

Ok ...now if you already have to put the key in the ON position..why the HELL do you want to add another step of cranking your car.
Just a waste of .. $40.?
Hell I would of sold you a light up toggle switch for $10. lol

Since you'd still need the ignition key, to power the whole thing, why should this button make it any easier at all to steal the car??? What the button does is, it is replacing that last step of the key: the "start" position. That's all it does. You don't need any extra kill switches or whatever. You turn the key to "on", and instead of then moving one extra position, you push that button.
About the need of it, well, I guess Mar3 is pretty much right: there is no need for it. But there is also no need for widebody's, or airdams, or wings. Cause none of you will drive at speeds that need them often enough to justify buying those things. Neither do we need big wheels, as it will only increase unsprung wheight, and make the car slower. If Mazda sold them with narrow wheels, that means those wheels are wide enough, unless you have WAY more power then stock, but most of us have not that much more hp.

When I worked on a S2000 at work once I was having a bad day and the customer brought the car in, and he says 'You know how to start this car?' I look and him and say ' yeah you turn the key and push the button, and then I add what a waste of time to add soemthing to a car when you have to turn the key anyways'
He looked at me and said 'yeah I thought it was pretty stupid too'

haha, its not a ricer mod if you remove the entire key cylinder and everything and just wire up the whole thing with flip switches for coil, fuel pump, etc Drops a couple pounds in the process
Not to mention getting rid of the steering lock system.
