kyb as replacements for oem?

so i think the first place i go on my recently acquired SE is the suspension. it makes the most excellent clunk clunk noises when i hit bumps, which tells me i should replace my shock absorbers.

i've heard a bit about KYB GAS-A-JUST shocks; mostly that they aren't half bad.

i'm on stock springs with stock wheels (and they'll stay that way).

how does this setup sound:

KYB Gas-a-Just rear shocks: $75/pair
KYB Heavy Duty front strut cartriges: $40/pair

any better options for replacing tired old shocks in a '84 SE? i'm going for stock spec here.

/edit - i just checked out www.mazdaracing.com and they have KYB GR-2 shocks for what looks like a good deal... are the prices listed per pair?

i use kyb's and i like them. in my opinion, ythey are great for street use. the rx-7 originally came with tokico's and the kyb's offer around the best bang for your buck.

I have KYB's on the rear, I like them. They are stiffer than stock, which I like. Where'd you find the front struts for $40/pair? I need to replace mine. I also need replacement bushings, mine are disintegrating.

doesn't say for SE or non-SE - i was told they may be the same as far as shocks and strut cartridges go, but it'd be nice to know for sure before i place an order...

Got tokico blues on the blue car and they're great (just finished a quick run up Page Mill road and down Skyline on top of the Santa Cruz mountain range on my way home and they responded with terrific footing, bump following and no bump steer). Much better than stock: a little tighter. Got another complete set on eBay for $140 using Auction Sentry for the silver car.

Brad, I've had KYB Gas-A-Just rears and KYB Heavy Duty fronts on my GSL-SE for the last 3 years. Very nice, the rears are kinda stiff, but no big deal. I've heard the Tokico Blues are a little stiffer and if you're going to do much autocrossing they're probably the way to go.

koni adjustable are way better then stock.

and my experiance with KYB has not been good. i have not tryed them on my rex but i got a set of KYB gr-2 for my neon when i had it. and the neon was on mopar auto-x springs.. had the kyb's on for 2 weeks of normal driving. and they blew. so i called and talked to them and they said since they were being used with "aftermarket" springs (even tho they were mopar!) it was void. but in good faith they replaced them. so i swaped them and i put the stock springs on.. about a month on stock springs. again blown and leaking oil. so i stay away from kyb
