Is it just me or does anyone else have this problem...

Do people come up to you and constantly mistake your car for the old Datsun or an old Porshe? ...I swear, every week someone comes up to me. Like tonight for instance. Lady come up, oh..what year is that!? ...I'm like..uh..82. She then goes on about how she's got an 80 and blah blah blah..and I'm like, wanna sell it? heh And then she points to it in the lot..and I'm like...er...that is not a RX-7..that is a 280zx. I didn't want to say anything because I didn't want to make her feel stupid.

Anyway, just figured I'd rant. Was wondering if anyone else has this problem? hehe

No..Most people that commented on my SE (when It was still alive) knew what it was and said how nice it was. I would get the ocasional " Hey don't those have rotary engines" or "man those things are fast"....I guess a 135hp car to some people is fast....huh....I would usually reply with "this one is a special edition with blah blah blah and it is going to be insane in a year or two........But that was all before some stupid *** went through my garage at about 60mph and totaled it......
....

yesterday at oreilys an old man walked up and commented that he liked what i did with the headlights on my RX-7 (i have the non-popup)

i said thanks and went back to what i was doin...finding cooling parts.

after i leave, he's parked next to me. almost pulls out..then decides to talk to me a bit. he says "bet you **** off a lot of those honda boys who spend thousands on their slow cars" i was like yep! i've invested a TOTAL of 1000 including the car tee hee! and the sound pisses em off too*gave it a quick rev*

Maybe it's just a Rockford thing then. heh And yes, I to just have to say RX-7 and people go crazy and think it's super fast as hell. Alot of people also mistake my car for an early 90s car too...very odd.

I get good reactions from how snappy my car is, and when I tell them its a 79, their jaws drop. I also leave the best and last part that it was a gift and I only put a minor bit of money in it. Its not the best looking thing but I really woke it up from stock form.

I've had mine called a 280 as well...but it was from some young kid....But then, this is the same kid who thought my honda was a harley because of the pipes I had on it.

Ryan, that's because the panhandle is full of them inbred hicks

Down here in Civilized, FL, I've had numerous folks know it was a 7 and know that it had a rotary. Had quite a few knew I had to be driving a 7 because of the rotor on my keychain.

Some people thought it was totally something way off from a seven yesterday. They were looking at it outside of my friends house and when I started to talk to them I found out that they thought it was the Back to the future car... It looks nothing like a DeLorian NOTHING like it except for the fact that my car is silver but still totaly wrong silver.

That is very true. People here cant seem to reed, rite or speel goood.

Example - some signs I have seen here(the ones people spraypaint and nail to a tree)

"Firewod for sale"
"Lawmower repair"
"Chocholat lab puppies"

For those of you that are from this area, all of the above are misspelled
