Ok, so hears the deal. I just bought a Hayden 16" fan and i was wondering how much of a difference in cooling it really makes?

Also, does the fan work better as a "pusher" or a "puller"?

The instructions recomend a 25amp switch.
Is a 10amp switch, with a 30amp relay ok??

I just want to make sure that i install it with the best results.

Anyone who has experience in electric, as apposed to belt driven, any advice would be appricated.

Thanks to all who take the time to help!

Gamble,

Are you using a 16" too???
I'm really wondering how much of a difference a 16" will make. As aposed to a 14" or 15" that i hear most ppl use.

I'm using a 16" Delare Electric Fan on my 82 GSL with oil cooler under radiator and one big difference is that the fan goes half way into the oil cooler so the oil cooler also benefits from the puller fan. Not to mentioned that it keeps my engine temp at about 1/4 or less 90 percent of the time... with some instances that it goes to about 1/3 under stop and go conditions....

To get most out of your electric fan place it behind the radiator (on the engine side not the bumper side). Set it up as a puller, to pull cold air through the radiator.

The reason why is if you put it in front of the radiator as a pusher the air that is being pulled to the fan, then pushed through the radiator will have more air resistance going through the radiator fins, causing lower cooling efficiency. I also recommend getting a temp sensor from you local auto parts store, this way you can set the fan to turn on whatever temp you set the senor on.

error402,

I decided to go with your suggestion and put it as a puller fan. I just finished installing it at 11:00pm (started at 9:30). All a have to do is run the switch inside the car and test it out by going for a nice long, fast drive.
The major test will be when i go to Banff tomorow afternoon. I live in Calgary, 'bout an hour highway drive from Banff. (for those who don't know where i'm talking about)

I'll give an update on how it works tomorow.

Thanks for your suggestions guys!

It's not that it makes a difference in cooling, it's that you can get rid of the power-sucking, belt-breaking clutch fan.

PIECE OF MOTHER F*CKING SH*T

Not only does the fan not cool good enough and make the car overheat, now the car has a f*cking stumble

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!F*CK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now what do i do!?!
I want to have the electric fan, but i guess i have to go back to the clutch fan for a little while.
But, now what do i do about the stumble???
Anyone have any ideas what it could be?
Bad water pump mabye???
I'm not that good at troubleshooting on rotory motors yet (i'm still relativly new to 7's)
Any and all suggestions would be very helpful!

Thanks in advance!

A 1A switch wires as a negative trigger to a 30A relay will even be fine, so 10A is overkill on the switch..

Actually, it's really wierd!!!
It didn't stumble at all before i took off the fan clutch.
After i finished installing the electric fan, and started the car for the first time with the new fan, thats when the stumble started .
I must have damaged something just before shuting off the car and installing the fan??
Either that, or i bumped a sensor or something while working on the fan.

Thanks for the advice Mike, but i had to remove the electric fan anyway.
The stupid piece of sh*t doesn't work good enough.
It made my car overheat too much.

Just out of curiosity, what was the flow rate of your fan?

2nd, the clutch fans on RX-7's don't do anything while your cruising. They only engage at low RPM's. I can hear mine stop spinning once I build up RPM's.

Electric fans are supposed to do the same thing. They only engage at a specific temperature and not when the car is cruising (unless your engine's getting too hot then they'll switch on).

So, you car should not have overheated at cruise.

As for the stumbling, it sounds (if nothing is loose) like you have a current problem. Either your robbing too much power from the generator or your causing some other electrical problem.
