Interior door handle does not work if door lock button is down

Locked out of the car. Before I start trying stuff wanted to check something. My kid / co driver says the interior door handles will not open the door if the door lock button is down. That true?

Also heard that it’s possible to unlock the door from outside via a small slot under the door handle and a coat hanger. Anyone got detailed instructions on this?

AAA were unable to get in. They could lasso the door lock button but could not pull it up. Door seal was too tight to finagle a rod through to hit the latch release. Gonna try myself when it gets light tomorrow.

The interior door handles will not work when the locks are down and engaged.

Peejay (another forum member) was the only person I know that has consistently unlocked his door with a small screwdriver. I've seen it done and I know that it's possible. Not something I would practice unless it were an emergency. He's very good at it. You can message him and he will offer advice. I'll send him a text and have him view this thread as well.

Got it! Once I know what the insides of the door looked like via a RAD Potential video I was able to make a hook from a coat hanger and THUNK up popped the lock. From now on I will be hiding the spare keys from The Kid so he can’t lock BOTH sets inside the car like he did last night.

Glad to hear that you were able to get into the car!! I try and keep multiple sets of keys for each of my cars on my key rack but they seem to disappear at times.

I was a little surprised that the AAA guy showed up to a lockout call without a slim jim. Now Inlnow where the rod is inside the door I could prob match your guy’s 3 seconds!
