Ideal Temp?

This may be a stupid question but started doing an electric fan conversion (Taurus fan) on my RX-7 and got to thinking that I dont have the slightest idea what the temp for the fan controler should be set at and dont even know where the needle should be under normal conditions due to its life as a track only car (just been doing the "if past half way back off" theory as theres no markings/numbers on the guage itself).

In short figuring Im reading at the inlet port to the radiator with an infared what temp should I have the fan come on? Where should it read on the gauge?

FSM says the thermostat starts to open at 180 degrees F, fully open at 203 F. I presume you'd want to keep the coolant at just above the fully open temp

the stock clutch fan turns on an 91C, so set yours about there and it'll be fine

I have mine set to kick on around 185ish. I don't like to see anything higher than 200 on my autometer gauge, but thats just me...

Ya I saw that part just the first time Ive ever seen a thermostat temp that was a range, normally it just specifies 1 tempture and thats about what you want to run it at (generally around 195) so wasnt sure if it should be 180, 203 or somewhere in between

Alright so translated into Farenheiht that puts it at 195 so set the low to come on then and the high at 205

tyvm all that answered and google answered my question about where the gauge "should" be under normal conditions

Alright another quick question if I got a gauge like this would I be able to just splice it into the orginal sender so its reading the same signal as the factory gauge or would I need an aftermarket sensor?

Edit - Just found that the senders included, so wheres a good place to put it?

You could always buy a water temp gauge adapter and cut one of the radiator hoses in half and install it there. You probably want to mount it on the upper hose.

In my opinion 195 is too high, I like to keep my temps in the 180's. Even with A/C on in the summer going 80mph my temps don't go above 200.
I drilled a tapped a hole in the back of the water pump housing, near the temp sensor for the choke shutoff.
