I summon the powers of the RX7 connoisseurs (please help)

Hello everyone
this is Stam from Athens Greece, totally unfamiliar with the RX’s but found this add online and got in live with this little car.
I am wondering if this was car has a turbo as a factory option or is some kind of after market option.
The car is sitting on a breakers yard and is soon to be crushed. Is it worth saving? Could this potentially have a higher value compared to the NA ones that I can find in the same price but in better condition?
Thanks for any input, cheers

So yeah, that's an original 12A turbo car with the ULTRA RARE rotor wheels. That car restored, would be worth some serious money. Definitely save that car and restore it. To let it be crushed would be nothing short of criminal and a travesty.

thanks for the input.
I am trying to contact that seller and get this car even if I do this just to park it in my shed and get another one to restore.
This car “winked the eye” to me (as we say in my Country when you want something without obvious reason).

It is also not a 1980 model year car, that body style originated with 1981 model year and the Turbo was a Series 3 (1984-85) option.

A genuine Turbo should have 4x114.3 wheel bolt pattern, not 4x110.

I'd want to save that car just to look at it! It's either a genuine Turbo or it's a very neatly done swap.

This looks like a US spec 1983 dash but didn't the non-US market continue using this dash in 1984-1985?

Yes. North America got the strange Series 3 dash, the rest of the world continued with the Series 2 dash.
ROW also got disk brakes on everything starting in '81, and 4x114.3 in everything starting for '84. Only North America continued getting drum brakes, and 4x110.

(I feel comfortable saying North American and ROW, given that something like 80% of first generation RX-7s were sold in the US market, and the chassis tubs are very much left hand drive biased)

Thank you guys for all the input.
so, is this a “rare” car worth saving or not?
i am quite puzzled after posting here, as my other option was https://www.car.gr/classifieds/cars/...919-mazda-rx-7
that is complete and in perfect order and the price is reasonable.

i am quite sure that the “turbo” one will need more money than the complete car in this ad, so would only bite the bullet for something that would be worthed.
should I forget about it and go for the green one?
thanks.

The green one looks like a nice driver but the first one is very rare, very collectible, and more valuable to the right person. It shouldn't be crushed.

The Green one is an absolute steal (that is: very inexpensive!) compared to the Turbo car. LOL - don't let our collective love here for rare RX7 models get you into a poor car! The green one is magnificent, you can enjoy it immediately and you will not go into poverty trying to make it a nice car. The Turbo will cost you MANY EU$ to repair to the standard of the Green RX7.
Good luck. If you get one, do let us know!

While I do like the green one, I have to say that there are too many aftermarket add on's and interior modifications for my liking. While it may be a cheaper car in the long run to get the green one, the maroon turbo car has a ton of investment potential. Both are worth restoring and enjoying. I would buy the maroon one. But you have to factor in not only money and time, but restoration skill. If you do not have the tools or the skill or desire to learn the skill, then sending the car off to be restored will definitely not be easy on your wallet.

I will definitely try to save it even if this means that it will stay in my shed until i collect the spares needed for its restoration (imho it will be a pain to do this but my spending limit was somewhere north of what this and the green will cost together so it will not be a big deal). Who knows maybe later on I could sell the green and focus on this one)

Parts are hens teeth on these turbos as far as I can tell searching the internet but I have the skills and tools to restore or refurbish whatever can be saved so I am quite confident and it will be a calculated risk.
btw I love Arizona, have seen a game at the State Farm Stadium and it was an quite an experience, you guys surely know how to enjoy sports.

I messed up with the multiquote thing, meant to include this message to the ones above but didnt.
I have retired from my job and liquidated my pension plan so have the three essential factors for a restoration, time, money, garage... and a wife that still goes to work so as an extra bonus, nobody will bust my ***** when I dive into the oily heaven of my shed!

Save it...I wouldn't even ask for an opinion.....

It would have been a post of....

LOOK WHAT I JUST GOT!!

Wow! This sounds like someone has just "died and gone to heaven". Two great car projects, a working wife, retired, money and what did I miss?
