I Need Insight. Driveline Problem.

some of you may remember i had a bent axle a while back, well because of the weather, i finally got around to getting it out, and it doesnt look bent. it doesnt appear to even have the slightest bit of bend to it.

here is my question, i have a new axle, but the backplate is a little rusty, and the one from my car isnt. i want to know if it is possible for it to be bent without actually being able to see it, and still have effect driveability. so should i swap to the new one, or would it be a waste of my time, because its something else, and then i could use the good backing plate.

Most of the time if there is damage to an axle that it is damaged where the wheel bolts up. You can put the car up in the air and run it to see if their is visual wobble without the wheel on.

there was, that was why i concluded that the axle was bent, but when i pulled it, it appeared straight. but i ended up putting in the other one, and it doesnt wobble. so i guess you wouldnt be able to see it. even if it is bent.

Have a machine shop inspect the axle. They should be able to tell you if it needs replacement.

Normally with the naked eye you cannot see a out off round condition. You have to use a dial run out gauge. Same thing with warped brake rotors.

Yeah, it sure gave every sign of being bent when I looked at it/tried to drive it. I hope you get it figured out soon, racing starts in a few weeks!

well i bled the clutch and the brakes today. adn then drove it about a half mile, and needed to bleed the clutch again, so i did, then drove a got to 2nd gear, and lost all pressure in the system. is their any way to decifer whether its the clutch or the master that needs replacing???

and also, it still felt like there was a vibration in the rear(like before with the axle) but its only upon initial accel, not under braking, or regular acceleration.

and thirdly, i put a few cap fulls of oil down the intake over winter, how long can i expect that it will smoke before i need to worry about my engine??

thanks all!

its pretty crappy, but you can see for the most part the axle is straight now.

First race is 4/28, followed by a meet at Maninblack's place in Holland. You can crash at my place if you want...

it will move, im uploading the video right now. must either be a bad pressure plate, or the throw out bearing is stuck. what do you think? or, the line could be absorbing too much of the pressure. there is pedal, but its way easy.
