Question I am a 'noob at this....What is the "Rats nest".

I am such a noob at this stuff...just bought my '85 GSL-SE the other month and I have EFI on it and was wondering if the "Rats nest" I see people refering to is the EFI or another part of the engine. I was also wondering if anyone could let me know which is better for performance....EFI or N/A? I want to rip this puppy down to the bones and built it back to "my" specs. I want to also know if a turbo is a good bang for the bucks....I think it is for obvious reasons, but should I keep the EFI on or go N/A? I know, I know, I have a bunch of questions here and I will continue to read as much as I can in this great website for more answers as I go along here, but for now I just need some quick answers from a veteran of the rotary. Thanks in advance for all your time and energy in helping me out.

Thanks-

Justin

the rats nest is a bunch of vaccum lines used mosty for emissions controlls. its a bunch of crap you dont need that can break and make your car run like crap. If you have emmissions testing where you live you will need to keep it though, you cant pass without it.

EFI will give you more power, but a carb is more reliable (this is what I hear, anyway)

If you do a search, go to the FAQ, or read the archive most of your questions will be answered

I think if you talk to someone with a 48IDA that is properly tuned and jetted on big SP or BP motor they will tell you to use your EFI as a paper weight. Those babies are simple, reliable and tuning is a breeze (if you know how). Oh yeah- cheaper than swapping to EFI too.
EFI is nice on a vehicle already equipped with it, but I have my reservations on the economies of swapping a carb'd car for EFI...

Thumbs up

That's cool. Can I increase my horsepower by switching to carbs? Can I add a turbo to the car easier with the EFI than with carbs?....Thanks for initial input from you and the rest of the people here...I appreciate it greatly.

Carb'd turbo applications seem to be Robs specialty at rotoryshack.com

I dunno about GSL-SE FI models- others on the board will sound in on that..
